...I'm not talking about the regular ones with the team names, like the Montgomery Biscuits (mmm...biscuits...). As you know, minor league teams have "event nights" and change their uniform accordingly. I've seen the local minor league team, the Clearwater Threshers, wear Hawaiian themed jerseys, pink jerseys (breast cancer), baby blue jerseys (prostate), and countless other ugly, yet not disgusting, jerseys.

Here's me and Cole back around July 4th, in 2005...hence the USA jersey...

The Reading Phillies, the AA affiliate, has now taken the cake with most ridiculous, worst minor league uniform ever.

A little backstory - the Reading Phillies have a -- mascot, I suppose -- called the Crazy Hot Dog Vendor. He wears one of those fake ostriches that make him appear as though he's riding one. I suspect, and I don't know for sure, he was a regular vendor who became so endearing for his insane ways to sell beef/pork products, the team embraced him.

The Crazy Hot Dog Vendor is pretty much what it sounds like. He dresses up in khaki shorts, a red-striped vest, and a white button-down shirt. The vendor also wears a red bow tie, a nerdy wig, big glasses and a hot-dog-vendor paper hat.

Put that together with some hot dogs to distribute to the crowd and an ostrich for a ride, and you have the Crazy Hot Dog Vendor.

At every Phillies home game, in the middle of the second inning, the Crazy Hot Dog Vendor comes out on his ostrich to his own music and intro video to throw out free hot dogs to the crowd. He will yell and scream, sometimes lose control of his ostrich and even chase players into the dugout.

Each performance, though, is a little different and unique, generating fresh laughs and smiles. The Crazy Hot Dog Vendor has appeared without riding his ostrich, instead carrying the animal over his back. Another time, the Crazy Hot Dog Vendor did his routine with his suit on backwards. On some nights, visiting teams even participate in the fun, throwing buckets of water on the Crazy Hot Dog Vendor.

He has his own merchandise.

Well, last night was his night at the ballpark.

I give to you, your 2010 Reading Phillies.

At least the players didn't wear the paper hats.

Those are some terrible unis.

Just about every minor league team gets a visit from the Crazy Hot Dog Vendor. I seen him at a Birmingham Barons game, a Biscuits game, and a Baybears game. My main problem with him is that he waste a perfect hotdog by throwing it to fans which allows the hot dog to fall out of the wrapper while in flight.

One of the coolest promotions I have seen this year at a Bees game is " the money roll" which is sponsored by a local bank. They take two people and wrap them up in a big roll of tape. They then place money on two huge wooden baseball panels and the fans have two minutes to collect has much money onto themselves by rolling over the money. Cant use your hands. Last time, a kid won $72.00 and the 2nd place guy got $28.00 dollars.

Good point. I could deal with a one time uniform.

Funny thing is the person who designed it was an old woman. She claimed she went with the color scheme because there are too many blue teams in the Carolina League, and wanted to be different. Which got me thinking.... what's closer to blue than any other color out there? That's right. Purple. ::facepalm::

It's an embarrassing day for all of baseball, baseball players, baseball fans, etc.

I think they are kinda cool. Ugly but I am sure who ever approved those knew that.

If baseball is all seriousness, it can never last.

The reason a lot of teams do this is to auction off the jerseys after a game. Way to make a few dollars. The team in my sig is an ameatur team for the best college players in the USA, and they had (or are having) 70's Retro Night (I saw the jerseys, they arn't horrendos) and the jerseys are to be auctioned off.

I do think it is ridiculous for teams to have jerseys for every occasion... but hey, that's how they roll apparently

Oh, and the NH Fishercats have that same guy on an ostrich thing that comes out in like the seventh inning and throws hit dogs into the stands.

MiLB gets a pass as far as I am concerned...MLB does not.

1976 Chicago White Sox...shorts and big collars equals uniform gold!
