Wossa strikes again...

I was bidding on this item for my friends Mahtook collection. He started collecting Mahtook about 3 months ago and has amassed quite a collection(big thanks to a few members here for the help!!!). He was visiting a relative in the hospital and asked me to ensure that he won this auction. He told me he would go up to $150. With less than a minute left, I bumped his max of $40 to $72 just in case. I had the bid screen up with $150 typed in just in case something off the wall happened. With 10 seconds left, it jumps to $73.11. I was in shock and with 5 seconds left hit the bid button(for the $150 I had up just in case). Thinking I am now good, I anxiously await to see the results. Problem was I never "confirmed" my bid. I knew this card would end for less than $40 bucks, never thought it would see $70. I would die to know if Wossa's bid was higher than $150 or if I just screwed my buddy out of a Mahtook he will never see again.

If he would go $150... why not just up it to $150 when u upped it to $73. And Im sure he would have lost anyway.... Wossa goes crazy for those Topps Vault cards. You should see what he pays for those Wacky Packages cards. Insane prices.

Not really sure why I didn't at that point. Like I said, I knew this card would be less than $40. I bought the Heritage Pomeranz from the Vault for $12 plus shipping. I looked back at the blank backs that Topps had out earlier today and none of the ones from the last few days went for crazy amounts. Just completely blindsided me.

No offense, but topps is really exposing the stupidity of supercollecting today. Just because there's only one of these doesn't change the fact that it's an inferior to a common base card. I can understand if it went for $10, but anything $50+ is just silly.

Actually, to state the obvious, you didn't do this as he instructed. I don't understand the logic of shorting the max bid from $150 to $72.

Sure, maybe Wossa would have paid $151, but at this point, we'll never know.

I have to agree with the folks that say there are way better 1/1 cards out there. I do own one of these 1/1 cards, but they are in no way comparable to a memo 1/1 or even a super of one of the less popular products. I guess that is why Topps offers these though, different people have different tastes.

There is something wrong with the bold statement, maybe you meant I believe the card to be only worth less than $40...

a) The card ended up more than $40,
b) You compared 2 different player's 1/1's
b) You compared a Heritage to a BDP

Not sure what conclusions you are trying to draw from your comparisons, but you should have manual sniped at $150 if that was the max bid per your friend.

Well not really. If someone instructs me they would bid up to a number, and I'm sniping for them, I just put in that number and then don't wait and see if I get. I don't sit there and watch the auction and where it is at and then open my snipe and change it just because it was going up.
Set the thing to the most you will pay and then go on with life. You played the I'll see if it is going for less, then what he will pay, you entered less, then what he would pay and you lost game.
Time to move on

I don't use a sniping program and don't ever plan on it either. I place my bids with about 5-10 seconds left in the auction and I put my MAX amount I'm willing to pay. I've only ever lost out on 3-4 cards that I wanted but they went for higher than I was willing to pay.
