Would this fantasy baseball trade make sense long term?

I have McCutchen and he is $5 and has a 1/3 contract. I really want Wieters who also has a $5 1/3 contract. Guy in my league said he would trade me Wieters for Cutch. I am torn cause Cutch gets steals and hits for a higher avg. Wieters might end up a power guy and being a catcher that sure does help.

Anyways, would that be a good trade even up? I also have Dexter Fowler in the minors to replace Cutch whenever he decided to be consistant.

Any help would be great. Time sensitve offer too, sounding like tonight or nothing.

I don't play much fantasy baseball, and most of my baseball watching/analysis is pretty much dedicated solely to the Red Sox....so I guess you can take my opinion with a grain of salt.....
I'd probably make the deal.

If you project Wieters to rebound and come close to his potential....it seems to me locking up a young potential star at that position would be more benificial long-term. As I said I don't really play much fantasy baseball, but it seems it would be easier to find an outfielder.

I am leaning towards doing that deal. I know that Fowler wont be as good as Cutch, but if Wieters turns it around and Fowler can stay in the majors, those two combined should give me more than Cutch.

Thanks so far to you guys..

Anyone else have ideas or opinions?

I guess I'm in the minority here. I would wait until the offseason to try and get Wieters or give him Folwer and something else. You are in the driver seat right now. You have the proven player.

If I wait, Wieters will either A) be traded else where or B) not availible. This is my only shot at him. I recieved McCutchen in an offseason trade last winter so it's not like I drafted the guy in our minors draft. I know that Cutch is proven, but Im in 8th of a 12 team league and we have to carry 2 catchers. My other OF are Boesch, Bruce, Pence, Colvin, and Delmon Young. I really like McCutchen, but most of the better catchers are locked up in contracts on teams that will keep them.

The guy also has McCann and I think I could maybe get him cheaper than McCutchen. Maybe like for Bruce or something. Only thing is, McCann is a 2/3 and is $24.

Looks like I have a deal. Plus I am getting Kevin Gregg in the deal and shipping out Nick Hundley. So the money is the same and I get the catcher I really want. I also have John Buck to go along with Wieters now. So here is hoping Wieters turns out to be what we all thought he would be or else I will be the laughing stock of the league. Oh well.

Ugh... Wieters. Might pan out in the long run fantasy-wise, but a total fantasy turd right now. I don't think that I would do it... McCutchen hasn't hit his ceiling yet and Wieters has shown little.

Wieters is indeed a fantasy flop this year...but I believe the OP intentions were to forsee the future and what could happen at a minimum risk. If Wieters doesn't pan out to his expectations, his OF and C are easily replaceable.

Giving up McCutchen for Wieters is a huge long-term risk. One that I wouldn't take. One would be better off waiting for Arencibia or something.

Considering the are the same value in FANTASY terms, no, it is not a huge long-term risk. Offensive catchers are very difficult to come by.

Offensive OF's are very easy to come by.

If they have the same fantasy value in his league right now, the easy choice is to trade Wieters for McCutchen straight up. No questions asked.

If McCutchen had potential for a 40/40 season, then I would balk a bit.

There is one thing that I forgot about and I have no idea how or why I didnt post this in the begining. I have Tyler Flowers sitting in my minors just waiting to be called up. Now if that changes the minds of those that said to make the deal, I guess I should have talked about that first. But I have a feeling that having him and Wieters for a the future could be a good thing.
