look at the history of yankee prospects in the last 5 years... austin jackson, jose tabata, joba chamberlain, and phil hughes... of them which has held their level of hype and value?

only thing is, is none of those guys were as highly ranked/skilled as Montero is.

and the same was said about each of them to the previous one... point is no matter how big the player ends up being stat wise he never realizes his hype. partly due to the prospecting crowd moving on once they believe a ceiling has been hit.

there is no way in hell that this sale should have even been thought about .000000001 of a second after offered it should have been accepted. especially if you are flipping for money and not collecting.

.

EXACTLY. Every yankee prospect is the "REAL ONE", the others were good, "but not this good". It never ends.

Joba Chamberlain was the next Ryan
Phil Hughes was the next Gibson
Austin Jackson was the next Mays
Jose Tabata was the next McGwire
Eric Duncan was the next Chipper

...the list goes on and on.

Who was the last super hyped Yankee prospect to actually perform? Cano?

Cano would be correct

It was Munson for sure! :?

Oh wait...

Jeter
Rivera
Posada
Pettitte
Soriano
Cano

And, please tell me which American League team had the MOST home grownplayers on their roster. Anyone?

You must not have very good reading skills, because you would see the question was:

"Who was the last super hyped Yankee prospect to actually perform?"

Did Derek Jeter come after Cano? How about Mariano? Pettitte?

Didnt think so.

Soriano was pretty hyped i'd say.

He is easily the best offensive Yankee over Cano. I know he only spent 4-5 years in NY, but he is a better player than Cano.

Soriano will probably finish his career with 400+ HRs and a .280 lifetime average. Not too shabby.

Why does everyone think he is going to fail? If it's just because he is a Yankee, that doesn't make sense. Where is the hole aside from the defense?

doesn't make sense either. Most of the other mentioned prospects were overhyped by Yankee fans. But almost every analyst or scout has said his bat is the real deal. Not too many Yankee prospects have been ranked by BA as high as Montero.

Austin Jackson was always a middle of the pack top 15-30 type prospect. Jesus is a top 5 prospect in the minors.

No one is saying he sucks.

People are saying he is overhyped due to being a Yankee.

Do you think if he was in Pittsburgh he would be getting this much attention?....keyword: Attention... not price on cards.

Not to mention, he will probably be traded mid season, unless the Yanks plan on benching Posada, or someone gets injured. But, as proven with history, the Yanks just go out and trade for someone else if an injury occurs.

Montero would bring in a really good pitcher, probably a Brandon Webb type (please? ) or an everyday guy, probably like Nate McClouth if they needed an OF.

To prove the point, why is Francisco Cervelli the backup to Posada if they plan on using Montero (who has dominated the minors) anytime soon? They will trade him.
