Jorge Posada

The argument:
Catchers with 250 HR, 1000 RBIs, and OPS+ of 115 in their careers = Piazza, Bench, Berra, Fisk, Carter (pretty much every catcher you can name that is in the HOF)

Posada has 242 HRs, 960 RBIs, and a 124 OPS+, so those numbers are pretty much assured if he plays one more year. He has 3 rings, and is a Yankee (like it or not, you have to admit that helps your chances to be a HOFer).

All the guys above though have way over those stats.

Least is Carter in both RBI and HR with 324 and 1225. Posada isn't anywhere near that, and I am a huge Yankees fan. No way is he a HOF.

I think that he will be voted in the hall. Not a first ballot but eventually will get the nod.

To tell you the truth, I don't think Carter should have gotten into the HOF, so I have to say no for Posada. I am a die heard Yankee fan and I can tell you no. In the imaginary Yankee HOF he belongs, but not the real HOF. He hasn't done enough for me to even consider him. If you put him in, than you have to put Bernie Williams in because they were both very similar players even though they played completely different positions.

Make that 243 HRs. :)

I think he will stay on the ballot for a long time, and possibly get in on years 11-15. Personally, he wouldn't get my vote, but he has been a pretty good player for a long time.

Key words. Agreed. The Hall of Fame is not for players like Jorge Posada. This wouldn't even be a question had he not played for the Yanks.

I chose those words precisely for that reason. It's not the Hall of Pretty Good (where Don Mattingly and Jim Kaat are enshrined).

Exactly why he shouldn't get in, "pretty good" doesn't cut it.....

He's a borderline guy, though there have been some grumblings that after two or three more productive seasons, he has to be seriously considered.

Two or three more productive years? The guy can hardly stay in the lineup as it is right now....

Not even close IMO.

I gotta guess your a Sox fan. It aint this far off but i agree not a hall of famer. Catchers just do not sustain long careers at a high level. Posada has some intangibles but ultimately the numbers hold him back.

How long until the Varitek question is asked LOL.

Varitek is not even in the discussion for consideration. I am a Sox fan, but an objective Sox fan. I do not hate the Yankees simply because I am a Sox fan, and I respect the Yanks players. I realize that Jeter, Rivera, and ARod are all first ballot HOFers. With that said, I dont think Posada is anywhere near the HOF. He is obviously a much better catcher than Varitek ever was, but he still does not deserve to make the HOF.

Agreed all the way, for me I rate him a tad higher then you do. I mean not even close would be someone not of Posadas caliber. Do not get me wrong he is not a HOF'er but with all said he has been one of the best catchers in this era.

I'm with those who've said "no chance", and I'll actually throw out some info...

Posada does not even have 1500 career hits. He's never finished in the Top 10 in the league in ANY major category with the exception of:

Average - Once.
Doubles - Twice.
OPS - Twice.

That's it, and on top of that, for as much as the Yankees have been to the playoffs in his career, his .236 postseason average does not cut it.

Posada has been a big part of the Yankees teams since about '97/'98, but in no way do his numbers call out HOFer.

His numbers just do not compare to the greats of his era (Piazza, I. Rodriguez). He'll get some consideration by the Yankee-lover voters, but that's it.

No way. He's a fan favorite and a decent enough player, but not HOF worthy.

The only way he's getting in is if he buys a ticket at the gate like the rest of us.

68 votes cast so far and 26% think he's a Hall of Famer. That's pretty much what I figured.

I think he may stay on the ballot all 15 years, as you only need 5% to stay on from year to year. But again, I don't think he will get in.

Being a Yankee has no effect on being enshrined, nor does having 3 rings. A good catcher, but no way a HOFer.
