(Ok, who saw this coming? I sure didn't.)

Athletics Agree To Sign Yoenis Cespedes
By Mike Axisa [February 13, 2012 at 11:12am CST]
The Athletics have agreed to terms with Yoenis Cespedes, reports Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports (on Twitter). Susan Slusser of The San Francisco Chronicle says (on Twitter) that it's a four-year deal worth approximately $36MM. Adam Katz represents the Cuban outfielder.

Was there even a whisper of the A's before this?

Glad I sold a gold refractor when he wasn't going to Oakland.

As an A's fan, I love this signing. It has to mean that the A's will be moving to San Jose shortly, right? .... right?

Well since they just spent all of their money on a pitcher...not likely. I hope they saved some money for gas.

Didn't see it coming either. I was hoping Tigers would snatch him as they sorely need speedsters. Oh well. Congrats to the A's fans!

I kind of like it. If he's really good in the next few years while the A's are in the basement, he would be great trade bait. If it takes him 2-3 years to develop, they might be contenders by then.

Oakland now has a surplus of corner outfielders. This excerpt stolen from fangraphs:

At the moment, they have at least 4-5 outfielders that could start for them in 2012:

Coco Crisp – 2 year, $14 million with 2014 option
Yoenis Cespedes – 4 year, $36 million
Seth Smith – 1 year, $2.4 million (with two more seasons of team control)
Josh Reddick – five seasons of team control
Jonny Gomes – 1 year, $1 million

And that’s not even considering that they have prospects Collin Cowgill, Chris Carter, and Michael Taylor all sitting in the minors.

I sure as hell hope so. Would make it much easier for me to see games, but more importantly they'd have a chance of breaking 10k/game. Such a sad franchise.

But why unload the pitching staff then make a splash like this? It makes little sense.

Looking at that list, I would say that the A's do not have any corner outfielders.

ZING!

You better be careful with those jokes. Yoenis Cespedes is the Cuban Chuck Norris.

It is pretty sad. Especially if you grew up watching the Bash Brothers. The A's were THE team for a while. They fell off hard.
