Yesterday, I was able to take a day off, and after months of consideration I dumped my entire collection of 20,000+ cards to the local shop. And, aside from my Gooden collection stashed away and out of sight, I have only 2 cards left. I'm just not in to prospecting, busting wax, sorting and such anymore. They were taking up space and I resented looking forward to closet treasure hunting as I once adored!
Needless to say, I am very content right now and am planning to take a very long time thinking on if and how i will refocus my collecting habbit(s). I still enjoy the hobby, but for now, it will be lived through you guys and the time I will still spend here. At 35 years old, I think I may have just outgrew it. I just do not get pleasure out of actually collecting anymore. I still love to talk cards, and stay current within the hobby, but just lost interest in the buying, selling, collecting aspect.
Back to the selling, how's this for a good shop owner....
I walked in tuesday around 12 noon and told him I wanted to move some unwanted material. He has a open door policy and literally buys everything for a reasonable price, from anyone! Knowing this, and knowing he was going to take it all, I started to unload in his shop. Once done, we began to riffle through them to give him an idea as to what there is there, value wise. After about five minutes, I said to him, "I really do not want to waist time." You see what kind of stuff is here and I just want to get rid of it. Give me X ammount of dollars and it's yours." He looks at me and says "are you nuts? Just from what I've seen, its 2 to 3 times that!" So he insisted on giving me 3x what I asked for, and even threw in a freebie, which is now one of only 2 non gooden cards in my collection..
So thats it... No more cards for me, for now.
Oh, want to know what my last 2 cards are?
What the freebie was??
The only card I kept besided my Gooden collection is a Lou Brock RC and the freebie was a BGS 8.5 Arod SP RC. With some of the funds I went and bought a Fender Strat and Amp. Gonna spend some free time learning to jam! Anyway, thanks for reading this long winded post. Just wanted to share my change of life, and how great a local shop owner I have.
Thanks, Ron.
