Hey man, unrelated to your topic Doc is throwing out the first pitch at my sons little league game this weekend.
They usually give some words of encouragement and have a little ceremony.
Here's the info:

Scarsdale Little league is proud to announce that Dwight "Doc" Gooden, also known as "Dr. K" the former pitcher for both the Mets and Yankees will throw out the first pitch for the 2009 Scarsdale Little League season. With a W-L record of 194-112 and a career ERA of 3.51 with 2,293 strikeouts, "Dr K" was known for his 98mph fastball and "nose to toes" curveball. Doc had his debut with the NY Mets on April 7th, 1984 at the age of 19 and his last pitching appearance was on Sept. 29th, 2000 for the NY Yankees. Gooden, in 1996, pitched a no-hitter against the Seattle Mariners on May 14 at Yankee Stadium. Don't miss seeing this pitching legend toss out the the first ball at the opening day ceremonies. All the action will take place at the Little League Field on April 18th at 8:30AM. Everyone is welcome. Please bring the whole family to see and hear one of NY's greatest pitching legends describe his career and inspire budding careers right here in Scarsdale.

I did the same thing you just did about ten years ago. I dumped all my hockey except my Lafontaine collection and a few choice red wings autos. I am at that point again where I might just keep my walkers and dump again as it has the same feeling for me that it is not really fun anymore. I think it has more to do with Walker no longer playing.

I used to dump everything every few years but have been trying to be a little more patient recently. I really don't regret most of the selling I have done though I do wish that I had used an eBay Store sooner than I did. It's still enjoyable for me but not fun on the same level as it was from 1984-1994 for me personally.

Woah! Thoes kids and parents are in for a treat! Dwight has really turned in to a great guy! Always smiles, and so pleasant to talk with. A real great guy! I wish I could see it! I bet he is enjoying it as much as anyone!

Man, if I could only recapture and bottle the feeling of card collecting back in the mid 80's, I'd be rich!

I know just the feeling!

I really use to love closet mining, looking for the few 'must sell now' items. Like when Pedroia took off, or Hanson, now Andrus.... Now, I resented it. I no longer wanted to and felt guilty for not doing so. I havent looked at anything for months, and although I still love the hobby, stacking boxes of cards and piling up stashes of players/prospects are a thing of the past.
