Oakland - there is no such thing as a set starting lineup, it rotates every day. It'll be some combo of this:

SP:
Gray
Kazmir (until he's traded)
Parker
Griffin
Pomeranz

Closer: Doolittle (until he's traded)

C: Norris/Jaso/Vogt
1B/DH: Butler/Freiman/Canha/Davis
2B/SS: Semien/Sogard/Punto
3B: Lawrie
OF: Crisp/Reddick/Gentry/Fuld

If opening day were today with this roster that won't be in tact come april, something like this:

SP: Gray

Crisp (CF)
Gentry (LF)
Lawrie (3B)
Norris (C)
Butler (DH)
Reddick (RF)
Cahna (1B)
Semien (SS)
Sogard (2B)
Actually not a bad lineup considering what happened this offseason. I would still pick this team over the Rangers.

That rotation is potentially garbage. Good thing they have a very good lineup. They are going to need to score a lot this year.

I have a feeling that one way or the other, Hamels ends up on the Red Sox.

The AL Central is potentially very nasty this year with only the Twins unlikely to contend. Key to this team is whether Salazar and Bauer can harness their stuff and do a better job of locating pitches with consistency. If so, this becomes a very nasty rotation to go along with a more than competent lineup.

Agree with this. I didn't realize the Indians lineup was that solid. If Bauer and Salazar perform well, Indians could run away with the central. As of now I think it ends up being
White Sox
Indians
Tigers
Royals
Twins

Although Indians and white sox could flip

I don't see it. The Indians staff is virtually unrecognizable. To expect the young guys to replace the production of the veterans they lost is wishful thinking.

I don't think anyone runs away with this division. Detroit will, at worst, have a great top 2 in their rotation and a nasty top 6 in their lineup. The White Sox are improved. The Royals will still have great defense and a bullpen that usually ends the other team's scoring after 6 innings.

They had a winning record last year, and the only veteran pitcher they lost is Masterson, who was a dumpster fire prior to being traded. I agree though that if the young arms don't step up, this is a 4th place team.

2B D.J. Lemahieu

SP Jhoulys Chacin

It's not that I expected them to make any moves in the offseason, it's just that they haven't made any moves in the offseason! Swapping out the GM for another company man doesn't count.

I expect another season where playoff hopes get fully offed in late June.

Then you haven't been watching baseball. What Veterans did they lose? Masterson? He was god awful before being traded. Carrasco should get better and is a good 2. If Salazar and Bauer can be anywhere near what they were expected to be they should be very very good 3-4 starters. House had a very good year as well and is young and should get younger.

This rotation can compete with either of the power roto's in the central (White Sox, Tigers)

Tigers got a year older (which means a lot when you have all these slow sluggish players) and they lost Max and failed to address their bullpen. I don't see anything better than a third place finish IMO.

Yeah, I wanted to see their stats from last year. I looked at it again and they were from 2013 when they had Kazmir, Masterson and Jiminez winning close to 40 games between them. Shows how much I pay attention to the A.L.

New Padres lineup. The batting order is a major guess. Weak OBP and not much speed. Hamels would look good at the top of the rotation. If the Padres are really going for it, they could certainly use an ace.

  • CF Wil Myers/Seth Smith
  • C Derek Norris
  • RF Justin Upton
  • LF Matt Kemp
  • 2B Jedd Gyorko
  • 1B Yonder Alonso
  • 3B Will Middlebrooks/Solarte
  • SS Alexi Amarista
  • SP Cole Hamels???
  • SP Tyson Ross
  • SP Ian Kennedy
  • SP Eric Stults
  • SP Cashner
  • CL Huston Street

The Padres do not need Hamels and will not go after him. They had Ross / Kennedy / Cashner

Thats ace material. Why would they give up the rest of their prospects for Hamels? and yes it would require Renfroe / Wisler / Hedges

Also not sure if you are implying a platoon with Myers and Smith? That's not happening. Smith will be traded or be a bench player. Myers also probably will not be leading off.

That lineup is in the top 5 in baseball IMO.

At least you can watch Tomas crush it! Goldy / Trumbo / Tomas will be fun to watch.

Kennedy is a very good #3 .

They don't need Hamels or an Ace which is why they have not and will not be linked to getting him and thats why nobody else is talking about it. They aren't stupid enough to trade their three best prospects for a pitcher and add to their strengths. They know they don't need him and having Hedges, Renfroe, and Wisler is worth a lot more than Hamels at this point.
