Porcello did what needed to be done. You can't have your best player get hit two nights in a row and not retaliate. I don't think Cabrera was intentionally hit with a pitch tonight. But Porcello had to show Cabrera (and everyone else) that there is a price to be paid when you keep coming in on him - especially after Cabrera had to leave the game because of being hit. Youkilis should understand that better than anyone.

Having said that, Youkilis is a wussy in every sense of the word. Throwing your helmet is about as weak as it gets.

Porcello DID show that, by throwing at Martinez. Why does he need to throw up an in to TWO guys?

Because he didn't hit the first guy. What's so hard to figure out about that? Retribution was required.

Red Sox fans are idiots, even dumber on average then Yankees fans. That's why it's difficult for them to understand.

Wow, I saw this while I was at my parents' house, and I knew there would be a thread on this. I could pretty much nail the tenor of it, and who was on which side. I love consistency.

If anyone cares, I saw:

1) Youk is sick and tired of getting thrown at. He's always been emotional, so it shouldn't surprise anyone when he charges. Add in the fact he's such a polarizing figure, and you get the reactions we see in this thread.

2) There's no way Porcello tried to hit him. No one on the field was ready for Youk to charge, and it looked like Avila was reaching for another ball. Even Porcello's reaction tells me it wasn't intentional. But again (and not excusing him at all), you can't tell Youk it wasn't intentional, or that it even matters to him.

3) I'm going about 60/40 in favor of the sidestep throwdown being momentum, but that's probably homerism.

4) Throwing a helmet is a bitch move until you remember that he just got hit with a ball. Throwing a bat would be going way too far. I'd still rather people didn't do it, but I understand it.

5.) Just like the 90s Yankees, the Red Sox will draw ire and vitriol for ANYTHING they do. In fact, since I was one that was spitting that vitriol in the 90s, I now regret it, knowing what it's like on the other side. And yes, Youk does dumb things, but when people paint the entire team with that brush, I either chalk it up to hyperbole, or moron-ism, depending on the person. Moron-ism will apply to those of you that need to look up the word "hyperbole" (or "vitriol").

It's a game. Punch the couch pillow and move on, people.

He failed. He tried to hit Martinez, and missed. He still sent a message, and it ended there. HE DID NOT HIT YOUKILIS INTENTIONALLY.

(EDIT)

Screw it. It's common sense that you don't see. Not worth arguing over it. Sox win. That's what matters.

That was the 10th time Youkilis has been hit this year. Peter Gammons with his insight on the situation on Baseball Tonight now.
I liked EY and Kruk's piece more, especially EY saying Porcello should've ran towards Inge haha.

Youkilis throwing the helmet is automatically suspension for probably 6 games?

He'll get 3. Hopefully Porcello doesn't get anything, but he probably will since he was ejected.

Only about 10-15 less than a number that should even matter or be something to get angry over...

Another quality fact: Notice the replay last night when Edwin Jackson hit youkilis. Youk looked like he really wanted to charge the mound but then realized that Jackson would have beat his face in. He had to wait until Porcello, a kid, hit him before he could charge the mound.

Oh wait, he still got slammed to the ground.

The picture of Porcello on top of Youk was about 1/20th of a second...if you look, Porcello looks scared as hell, even though he's on top. Youkilis just looks pissed.

I still say that wasn't a slam, just a momentum transfer, but I won't argue physics.

Not really, notice Porcello's clenched teeth and angry look on his face. Also notice Youkilis' look of surprise that he just got taken down by a kid.

It's funny how all the Red Sox fans are trying to say that it was just momentum, but watch the video. Porcello clearly planted his foot and put youk on the ground. So go ahead and say that I'm biased, but in reality, your guy got owned. That's a fact.
