I guess I will play the role of supporter. Honestly, yes it does look bad. Maybe even go as far as embarassing. However, the decision to get treatment seems a bit ridiculous to me. Players get frustrated all the time. He is not the only one who has ever throw a temper tantrum in the dugout, or go apeshit on another person. George Brett going crazy was the first thing that popped into my head while I am typing this with the whole pine tar incident.

To be on a team for 7-8 years and endure so much losing and public scrutiny, it was bound to happen....again. It's is just his mentality. He's a fiery competitor. I think an appology to team would have been suffice. To be honest, it has just been blown too far out of proportion, and that is what has caused this.

What do you think about all this?

This has been a real interesting season. Zambrano has had a bunch of problems. Still I think the management is partly at fault as well. He had a horrible opening day start, but seemed to be getting things together in his next few starts. Then they throw him in the bullpen for 5 weeks which one killed his trade value, and I think it really messed with him mentally as well as physically. It took him a while, but he finally came back to the rotation. I think he was like 2-2 with a 3.6 something ERA before his last start where he blew up. The defense had been terrible in his start 2 weeks back; Derrek Lee had 2 errors which really cost the Cubs the game. All of this including the fact he hasn't been pitching that well became too much for him. I think he was trying to control himself, but with his anger problems he exploded.
The Cubs are in a very interesting situation. They really don't want him on the team anymore, but with all the money that he is owed he is almost unreadable. I find putting on the restricted list to be very strange. They are trying to help him with his mental problems, but they have already said that when he returns he will be put in the bullpen. Even if he does well in the role, which he didn't earlier in the season, it won't help the team a whole lot or help his trade value a ton. I just find it really strange that they are paying him to get counseling when he doesn't have much of a future with the team anyways. Thoughts?

That's the thing though... you brought up that one famous incident where Brett went ballistic. Big Z has gone insane several times in his career. Homie puts the Z in craZy. Maybe it's Cray-Z?

Of course it is sort of a double standard. I can think of countless managers exploding, running onto the field and getting into an umpires face and screaming their heads off. Why aren't those guys required to get counseling?

My take on this is this. There not have been a clause in his contract about conduct being detrimental to the team.
I think the Cubs would have tried to void the rest of the contract as well. But per the union and the league this
may have not been possible even if it had the clause, it can be hard to do so. So since they wanted to replace him on the roster and suspend him more then a few games to make their point because he has done this many times before, they had to ask him to go to some kind of anger management treatment. They could only do this by putting him on the restricted list and then he can be replaced.

Sadly this had to come to what it did and even more sad this will be the headline of the season no matter what happens with this team the rest of thee season. I really think the team just needs to let him go thru the program they will lay out for him and then in the off-season eat the contract and then move him. It's funny that almost everyone that has been given a lot of money by the Cubs, just seems to end up like this First it was Sammy Sosa and then Milton Bradley and now it seems to be Carlos will be the next one out the door after the team paid them to much money.

I understand man. He's frustrated currently but he does have a history here. I think that's why this one time has been blown out of "proportion"
