A little New Years Day antiquing with 2 of my boys- found 3 autographed books for $18 total (a little more than usual but not bad):

Richard Russo- "The *****'s Child and Other Stories"- author- Empire Falls, Nobody's Fool
Hugh Downs- "Perspectives"- tv journalist- longtime host of 20/20
Robert MacNeil- "Wordstruck"- former host of MacNeil/Lehrer news hour

Also, have recently obtained 2 books signed by Doris Kearns Goodwin (one personalized to me and one to my son). She is known as a political commentator and Pulitzer Prize winning author (On Kennedy, Johnson, FDR and Lincoln) and also was prominently featured in Ken Burn's "Baseball."

At a private signing, she signed "Wait Till Next Year: A Memoir" for me and "Team of Rivals: The Political Genius for Abraham Lincoln" for my son. The Lincoln book is now a highly regarded movie.

Need to get all of these scanned.

Wifey sick today so decided to hit my most local GW, which I just hit 4-5 weeks ago. One signed book to be found (here's a copy of it, picture pinched from EBAY), signed by author and not Hayes. Oh well, a decent find for $3.

I know you guys try to buy stuff mostly on the cheap, but I have a friend who is an author of two baseball books, signed and delivered for $25 per book, Before the Glory, and Billyball: The Road to the Yankees/Phillies World Series. Any interest hit me up with a pm.
He also just did a signing with Buddy Harrelson, and has six of Buddy's books signed an inscribed also. I created a thread about it and the thread has a pic of the sig page. Can't figure out how to do it here with this new iPhone update, but anyway, he was asking $40 delivered for the Buddy's. again, any interest, just pm me.

Yea, pretty darn happy with these. I love the thrill of the chase and it is almost becoming an obsession hunting for signed books any chance I get. In Maine there are 18 GW stores and I have hit all but 2 over the last couple of years. I think I now have roughly 40 signed books.

Hornswoggled: An Alafair Tucker Mystery - Donis Casey

She seems to be a pretty decent author. It was a random score on a Goodwill cold-call.

Do any of you guys take note of the weird, unsigned books (or signed I guess) that people donate? I've come across some really weird ones. I found at least 3 books about how bad Bush is, and one book about how the Bible has a secret code that predicts the end of the world. Not to mention all the crazy self-help and get-rich-quick books I see.

......well, Goodwill can be a weird place just in-and-of-itself.........I'm really hoping to find a Suzy Orman signed book to help me get my finances in order and a Dr. Phil to help me with my marriage.

Haha true! I have come across some really odd stuff.

I found a signed book on Monday that was just so out there I had to leave it on the shelf. Thankfully it wasn't there today.

Haha. I guess I'm not "retired" but I needed to slow down the weekly visits to focus on school. I had some time today and needed to do something else. I'll be in this full swing come summer time

So, last night I was invited to Celtics/Lakers game in a big sponsors box.....while enjoying the pre-game spread I see a tall gentleman with a cane hobble into the box with a nice female team escort. She was carrying a pile of books and I ended up with 2 personalized copies of this (one for me and one for my youngest sons b-day next week)

Also signed by author as well.

It was a very pleasant and unexpected surprise and he was a GREAT guy!!! For those who do not know, Jo Jo was a 7 time all-star and 2 time champ with C's in late 60's/70's. According to the book he is one of only 3-4 of the top 66 rated players not in the HOF (Shaq, Gary Payton 2 of the others not eligible yet).

Will get scanned ASAP.
