I think Cabrera does MUCH better next year. He is settled in now, and the second half stats should be more like the total year next year. Also, Wright is probably near his high for steals considering as he ages he won't be stealing 30 a year. Another thing is Cabrera isn't really all that bad at 1B in his first season. I bet after another year he will be better than average at first. Think any converted 3B. They all pretty much end up good fielders even though they might be too slow for 3B (Pujols, Youk, etc.).

David Wright plays third and plays it well
Miguel Cabrera plays first, not particularly well

David Wright OPS+ed 143, and SOPS+ed 146.
Miguel Cabrera OPS+ed 131, and SOPS+ed 134.

David Wright got unlucky with his BABIP
Miguel Cabrera got lucky with his BABIP

Going forward, I'd want Wright by a longshot.

Wright does it again, another .300, 30 HR 125+ RBI season.

Um..no..he didn't..

Nick, who'd YOU vote for? (looks at your sig lol)

Honestly, I can't even remember, as I voted a few months back. I probably voted for Wright, because he is the better, more complete overall player. If the question was, "who's the better hitter", I'd vote for Miggy. Still very close for me.

Voted for D. Wright. Miggy's my favorite player, but I'm not biased like alot of the members on here. Miggy has a better bat, but Wright is a better runner, and fielder. The margin between Miggy's bat, and Wright's bat isn't huge, so I'd say Wright overall.

Oh Canada......
ROFL!!!!   that is what happens when you play in NY you get Over-Rated.

I will take Miggy anyday of the week!

These are career stats (Mind you, you can't really judge Miggy this year. It's extreamly tuff switching leagues.)

*Who has been in the league longer: MIGGY.
*Who Is Younger?: MIGGY.
*Who Has More HR?: MIGGY BY 45.
*Who Has More RBI?: MIGGY BY 161!.
*Who Made Less Errors This Year?: MIGGY, Wright made 7 more.
*Who Has A Higher OBP?: Wright By .8
*Who Has More Hits?: MIGGY By 203.
*Who Has A Higher BA?: Tied at .309
*Who Has A Higher SLG %?: MIGGY .541 To .533
*Who Has More Runs?: MIGGY 534 To 464
*Who Has More Triple's?: MIGGY 12 To 10.
*Who Has More Doubles?: MIGGY 219 To 183
*Who Has Made LESS Errors In Career?: MIGGY, Wright has 43 More Errors.
*Who Has Done Better In Playoffs?: MIGGY.

I think I proved my point, and Baseball Reference will back it!

I just presented the facts, and the facts say that Miggy is better period.

Who will I take? MIGGY!

Oh Canada......
And for those getting on his weight please..... he lost like 22 pounds before he joined the Tigers and is on a weight loss program this off-season or so I hear.

Trying to make Wright better by picking on Miggy's weight is just pathetic!

Shep. :ugeek:

****

WRIGHT is an AWESOME PLAYER and would love him on my team, I am just presenting the facts.

And I am not trying to pick at any poster, just I think the weight comments are a joke.

Shep,

I respect your opinion, but some of your stats are flawed because they have a different # of AB's. Because of this you have to use ratios:

Instead of hits you use BA...which are the same
Wright has more HR/AB then Cabrera
RBI/AB .18 Wright .19 Cabrera ...Slight adv. Cabrera
Doubles/AB .07 Wright .06 Cabrera
SB...Wright OWNS Cabrera
BB/K...Adv. Wright (.68/.52)
OBP....Adv. Wright
SLG%...Adv. Cabrera
OPS...Adv. Cabrera by a HAIR

And now for defense...Yes Cabrera made less errors then Wright but he played FIRST BASE!!!! .971 F% in the outfield is terrible. Overall Wright is a better 3rd baseman, and Cabrera is not great defensivley.

Defense...Adv. Wright

OVERALL....ADV. WRIGHT. Hands down.
(This is based on past/current production, not future speculation...and takes into account hitting, baserunning, and defense.)

K, I'm done.

[quote="Ian Stewart":3hhfd2ff]Who would you take in terms of pure talent? Both players are young and, in my opinion, very comparable. Their stats for the year:

David Wright: .288 AVG, 21 HR, 87 RBI, 75 K
Miguel Cabrera: .298 AVG, 21 HR, 85 RBI, 86 K

Now that both players are playing with a bit of protection, who would you think is the better player? I'm biased, so I will keep hush about it.

And please don't come in here like an idiot and rant about how fat Miguel Cabrera is/was. I think everybody is well aware that he has put on some weight.

I'm confused where you got those numbers from for both players...

David Wright: .302 AVG, 33 HR, 124 RBI, 118 K
Miguel Cabrera: .292 AVG, 37 HR, 127 RBI, 126 K

I'm confused as to how you are incapable of noticing the date of my first post.[/quote:3hhfd2ff]

Not incapable of noticing it, but certainly capable of overlooking it in cases where an old post is brought back to life. Post date isn't something I normally look at as it usually doesn't have an effect on what someone says. This is obviously a case where it did.
