I have been working on this for about 2 months now. Today I finally sat down to find a printable checklist out, and I see that I have some work to do!

The set has 494 cards (apparently, there were supposed to be 495 but one guy got cut due too off-field issues), and about 30 errors/variations, not to mention contest cards/checklists. I want to start JUST with the regular base set of 494. Then I will work on the errors/variations and extras.

I am going to use this thread to post my '58 Maildays and questions, and I will update progress every month-couple of months.

If anyone has raw lots or singles that they would like to sell to me, I can buy them after the first of April (there is a local show that day and I want to be able to use money for that), but I will make exceptions for low dollar amounts.

My first question is, what are the higher dollar cards that I need to be aware of?

Won the Jim Bunning last night for a really good price... $30 BV card and I got it for $5 and shipping. Have to pay for it soon. Trying to scrape together 2-3 bucks in paypal

Actually was weird that I found it. I usually don't go past the price+shipping=lowest first (first page) because I am trying to nab the cheaper ones.

Favorite youtuber found some stuff in his basement and had it on eBay, so I saw it and decided to try and get it.

EDIT:

Paid for the bad boy. Pretty excited to get it in the mail. I have about $70 saved up, and with a show on the horizon, I hope to be able to put that on a few medium priced '58's. Also have some card saver 1's on the way to store these bad boys.

I counted it up, and I have 30 in hand, and 1 on the way...

so 31/494. If anyone has a few that they want to sell/trade, PLMK and I will see if I can round up something for you.

Bought Early Winn for $3.

I could have gotten a better conditioned one for the same price, but this one works. If I were to grade it, it would be "well loved"

32/494

If anyone has a few, LEMME KNOW!

I bought 4 commons last night, and have my eye on about 5 more including a yellow name.

I should say that I bought them (in lots of 2) for $1.88 a piece, which is a REALLY good deal IMO since I normally spend about $1.75 for 1 (and sometimes shipping costs).

Apparently, it's someone who's uncle is a set builder and buys a lot at shows, so he gave this guy a few of his worst conditioned cards to sell on eBay.

I plan to keep buying from him if I can get them at this price!

Went ahead and bought 4 more. I will have to make $2.83 paypal to cover them. I just wanted to make sure I secured them.

I will post a video or some pics of the progress once I round them all up and get them in card saver 1's

Missed out on the Yellow name, but that's ok.

Also bought some Card Saver 1's... AAAAAAAANDDDD

I did some PMage this morning and I MIGHT be able to land a NICE high dollar raw... one of the biggest in the set... but I ain't gunna say who.

I will get pics in when these next 9 arrive.

I bought 2 more, 44/494.

Next time I am going to purchase a larger lot and pick through it, and keep what I need, and either upgrade, or send TTM what I don't need.

Jeff: I got behind with school. I will get back to you in the next couple days.

Cubfan: We can deal for some of those. I know I have the Bunning already. My '58 set got boxed up last week so I have to find it and compare numbers.

this is going to be a sweet set after you're done!

It sure is! I love this set... the bold color backround gets me every time.

The problem will be Mantle has at least 2 cards in the set, both of which book fairly high, as well as many other great players, and there are a lot of variations.

That being said, I think I can tackle it. My plan is to get every low dollar card that I can get my hands on before heading off to college, and possibly a couple high dollars. Then finish it in my first couple years after college.

6 more were added to the lot that I plan to purchase. This is going to be sweet!

I think I lost one I already had. Oops... gotta count them up again.

Nice job gettin 6 more! It really is going to be an awesome collection. 58 was a great set, and they are just a good looking card to me, so I think it's cool you're trying to tackle it.

Yeah! I am kinda bummed that I am missing a card, but that's ok. I moved the set around so many times that I probably mis-placed it, or just left it in the box that I took it from. It's gotta be around here somewhere.

I should be receiving a total of about 38 cards from this one purchase, including some big time cards. This will put me fairly close to the 100 mark which is where I want to be in a couple months.
