It's amazing to read the backs of these cards. Almost every one of them was in the military (the 52 reprint guys, that is. I have my doubts about Logan Morrison and Jonny Gomes.)

Topps produced an insert set in 2006 for veterans. They left a nice open space at the bottom and people got them signed and they looked nice.

I don't have them scanned atm, but these are two of my favorites. I've got most of the Distinguished Service insert set from 2007 Topps (a 30 card set).

"Bullet" Bill Dudley
The letter I received back (along with two signed notecards, and two signed HOF postcards) was awesome. In it he wrote how on his way home after the war he had to make a stop on Oahu–Hickam AFB–to catch a ship back to the states. While he was sitting around he received a note that the Hickam base commander wanted to see him. He reported, and was propositioned by the CO: play for his service (Air Force) football team during a three game intermural series against the Navy–and if he agreed he would find a plane to fly him home in instead of a ship. This would make a big difference, since by flying home he could rejoin the Steelers in time to play three games before the season ended. He at first declined, but the Commander would eventually convinced him…and he would be home in time to play for the Steelers. How many future football HOF (or any HOF player) are going to write letters like this?
