The cards are #/25...
All names were inserted at equal qtys (no players held back at a higher rate than another)...
25 is 25, so I dont feel anyone has been misled...
Clearly, retro production was lower than the purple print run...

To clarify, I have never MET, SOLD TO, GIVEN TO, SPOKEN TO or SEEN bigboydcards...I have neer dealt with this guy who has been the subject of much discussion,.....

I have received better details from my guys (and frankly not sure anyone is entitled to EXACT details), but I am willing to share these were makeups for shortages on a retail chain deal... These cards were NOT intended to be sold into the hobby.. They were supposed to be used in retail repacks in a major chain,... I have emailed the chain to scold them for issues created by their redirection of these cards..

However, I will take fault for the fact that they used these particular cards.. In retrospect, these popular hobby cards should not have been used for retail purposes... In future, all issues like this must be approved by me with hopes of avoiding these sorts of issues.

Sorry it took me a while to get details,... But as promised, there you have it.
BG

P.s.- you don't have to like me, leaf or the resolution of this issue... However, I continue to share details no other company would dare share.. Bash me if you wish, but to say we do not provide extraordinary transparency would be an utter lie..

Not on purples...
Plus, the only reason there were any SPs were when a player smeared sigs or cards came back damaged..

So long story short, you guys borked a deal with a major chain, sent them the extras you had, and stuff happened? If I may say, WHO THE HELL ARE YOU TO BE SCOLDING ANYONE IF YOU BORKED THE DEAL WITH THEM? YOU GUYS WERE THE ONES THAT SCREWED UP IN THE FIRST PLACE, AND CHOSE THAT OPTION TO TRY TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. YOU ARE IN NO POSITION TO "SCOLD" ANYONE.

Now that the yelling is out of the way, if you provided them with the leftover cards as part of a retail repack, and they instead resold them into the hobby, do you have any recourse for that?

Back to the yelling; DO YOU HONESTLY THINK THAT THE COLLECTORS THAT KEEP YOUR PATHETIC COMPANY AFLOAT WOULD BE HAPPY TO SEE THESE "LIMITED EDITION" CARDS AVAILABLE IN SOME WALMART / TARGET PACK?

In all seriousness, the constant mistakes you and your company make are inexcusable. You guys have been in the card manufacturing business in one form or another for several years now, yet you make more rookie-level mistakes than any other company in the history of the hobby (and considering the people that have been in and out of the hobby, that's saying something). You throw $ around, and do things to try to make a big splash and buy a reputation, yet your execution is piss-poor at best.

PS: Don't go patting yourself on the back about your "transparency". If it weren't for this forum, your start-up would have been at least twice as difficult. You've been the one putting yourself out there, promoting your brand and inviting comments (even after your repeated "I won't post anymore" drama-queen flare-ups), so you don't get to play the "good-guy" card for responding when someone calls you on the carpet for something shady that they've seen. Transparent would have been you making a post saying "Hey guys - be on the look-out for additional Purple Refractors at your local big-box store because we screwed up."

Doubt it.We all know how BG likes to gives things away when someone is in trouble.

The man owned up and got you guys an answer that, as he stated, no other company would dream of giving you. That deserves a commendation.

Might we be prevy to know who this was you were dealing with that instead of using them for packaging purpose (as according to you was part of the deal) decided to simply sell them outright? Seems that we should know who this shady counterpart was, no?

Frankly no.... I honestly didn't "owe" an explanation at all. I gave info I did as a courtesy...
I would never by name bash a wholesale customer, however I do learn from crap like this and adjust accordingly.

You better look out, you might get scolded in an email for that kind of talk.

Of course not, you did not "owe" us anything as you keep on saying, however it is best to let your customers give the kudos where applicable, rather than continually tooting your own horn. Least we forget this overwhelming and extra ordinary outpour of explaination was in fact done not as a generous bonus but rather damage control, damage against your name/company. Just something perhaps you may want to adjust accordingly as well.

Edit: You know what, after re-reading this is may have been a bit harsh....

But I'll leave it anyway :)

Sean, with all respect, you have no idea what you are talking about.

I wouldn't have known about this had I not seen it on FCB...(I appreciate the info,btw)...
I cannot address something before I know about it,.....

LEAF is kicking ass. Our revenue this year will be nearly $20 million, with growing profits.....The only sports manufacturer more profitable than LEAF is Topps... I'd definitely be willing to bet on this.....I'd say this is damn good execution....

You can talk all you want about execution issues, but most others have misexecuted FAR more (not that that excuses our errors, but Sean stated we make the most errors). The only difference is that you do not have a hardon for them... Redemptions alone are 100's of failures per year for them....The only reason you don't know about these companies horrific behavior (fake game used, redemptions of players who never had deals, back door single deals, checklists designed to mislead collectors, etc) is that they don't respond when you guys ask questions,... I care and will respond..
You can say what you want, but NO one can say I don't care about this industry.....

These singles were supposed to be put in retail packs... Apparently, this was made very clear..
I will handle this between me and the retail customer,....this is none of your business....

I'm done with this thread as I am not going to waste time arguing with non-consumers of our product who argue and attack for sport...

Legit customers can feel free to PM or better even come to the national and talk in person.

BG

P.s.- Sean, I am not sure of your hobby resume, but I have done far more good for this industry than 99.5% of industry professionals,... Ask hobby insiders and you might someday have a clue what I have done in and for this industry....

I am a standup guy. I am not afraid to discuss issues in person.

It's not damage control, it's finding out about an issue on a message board and addressing it.
Again, the witch hunt mentality is why manufacturers laugh when customers complain. They tell you to eat crap and you thank them for it.

I am merely mentioning the transparency because rather than appreciate the fact I share anything,I get a healthy dose of keyboard cowboys and non-customer critics who live life looking for glasses of half empty and conspiracy theories....

Done with this discussion. I hope I answered legitimate questions.

BG

P.s.- matfan, you are a consumer and I give more credence to your opinion than most. I appreciate your thoughts and find it a shame out ability to interact in open forums is limited by some of the people who deteriorate conversations by their very presence.

Brian, we have spent some good time in the past on the phone, in emails, and here on line. I may voice my opinion and frustration louder and more critical than most but that is only because I expect more from you. I do buy your product and will continue to do so, and I do appreciate the effort you give in keeping your customers informed. But come on my man, it has been a while since a good LEAF/RAZOR thread has poped up and I just can not help myself. In part because I feel closer to you/LEAF than any other company (but lets face it, this is your fault), but more so because I am passionate about the hobby, just like you...

This is a good post but I think everybody is underestimating the amount of control BG or any other company owner has once a product has been sent to a distributor. If BG makes a deal with a major distributor for a retail product then all he can do is assume the distributor is going to follow through with their end of the deal. If they don't then all BG can do is let them know that if it happens again they will no longer do business together. I don't hold BG accountable for what someone else did but if he continues to work with the same distributor, and it happens again, then all bets are off.

I would encourage anybody that has a serious problem with BG's business practices to contact him directly, not bash him on a message board. Be a man and pick up the phone, email him, etc. or better yet you can talk to him in person at any major card show. He's always there walking the floor and I've never seen him refuse to talk to anyone. He's the most accessible manufacturer in our hobby and there's no reason why the guys doing the bashing on here can't talk to him about these things face to face.
