Neither comes across very well, but a buyer telling a seller what his unique card is worth never works (especially when asking for an 80% discount). If I was the seller, I'd've taken the first $9K offer in a heartbeat. While Ziegler has a point that there isn't exactly a shortage of Ruth cuts, it is also likely true he's underestimating the demand for a base Topps card versus TTT. I think that might be a factor. But still, $9K is a strong sale for a redemption.

I'd like to see Ziegler's collection, though. 13 Ruth autos? Sweet.

The seller must be a real ******, who sends an eBay private message conversation to Dead Spin? Who cares if it's with a MLB player or not.

There will always be sellers who are uneducated on card values and that will never change. It is not the sellers fault that anyone can sell on Ebay. That doesn't change the fact of what the seller wants for his card and what Ziegler was willing to pay and the exchange that happened between the two of them. That is, unless you feel that the seller should have sold at Zieglars offer. And, if the seller thinks the card is worth $20,000 and Ziegler things it is worth $5000, is either wrong or is the seller unprofessional? In my opinion, absolutely not...

BTW I have been full time in the card business for 20 years and have a tremendous amount of knowledge but I still have a tremendous amount of learning do but don't ascribe to the policy of telling a seller what he SHOULD sell his item for and then call hin uneducated or unprofessional if I don't get my way...

Yes, just what the hobby needs... more people who are uneducated on card values :benson:

This is part of the reason why I say there are too many unprofessional ebay sellers - anyone can be one!

Acknowledged without slinging hash back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I work in the I.T. Department. Would you like me to get you a new keyboard? It looks at though your "Exclamation" key is sticking again.

As far as your 2 cents go...be educated before trying to sell something so you have an idea that the potential buyer is not low balling you and that you don't have to stand behind an American flag to try to sell something over priced on eBay.

My 2 cents. You can have yours back... Ahhhh yes... The life of an I.T. Specialist.

About that keyboard... Call in a ticket and we will get it replaced for you.

You're agreeing with me that there ARE uneducated and unprofessional sellers on eBay. This doesn't mean I need to purchase from them, nor should I want to promote there being more uneducated and unprofessional sellers. Seems that people here agree the seller is uneducated and if the description fits... it fits.

Yes, there are uneducated and unprofessional sellers on Ebay.......The seller said he was new to the hobby but that doesn't make him unprofessional as you indicated. Don't confuse someone wanting more for their card than you may be willing to pay as unprofessional.

I understand that Brad wants the card but in all honesty the seller can list it at his desired price. As a seller I love when someone says "your never going to get that price" then a week later I get the price I wanted.

the seller might be a ******, but Ziegler comes off like a toddler that isn't getting the toy he wants. I love the fact that the seller quit debating it and forwarded it to Deadspin. Between the message "Good luck with your collection, this is one card that certainly won't be in it." and sending the transcript to Deadspin, Ziegler must've thrown a tantrum. Awesome.

A professional knows how much a service or product is worth - and consensus is that this guy doesn't know how much his product is worth. This alone makes this seller unprofessional.

To paraphrase what you said: Don't confuse someone who doesn't know what something's worth with a professional.

I think he tried to handle it like a professional until he sent the pm's to dead spin. At that point he became really unprofessional. But a lot of sellers are uneducated and some are not. More to the point, I think you'll be more apt to find greedy sellers than uneducated sellers. There is a zillion sellers out there who know they, on a good day, will never get the price they've set for an item. There's people out there who are so greedy they'll run their own damn self out of business because even though they know they are overpricing, they are hoping for a fool and his gold. A lot of times that's what it boils down to. Because educating yourself on a card isn't too hard. A few questions and a look at past sales history clears up some confusion. So it's easily remedied. What isn't easily remedied is false hope that you get that random idiot who comes along and buys at your price. And if this does happen it only strengthens your resolve. Which isn't necessarily a good thing.

I say let people ask what they want for a card but I also have the right to laugh at their absurd asking price. Yes I know it's their card but just because it is doesn't mean being out of touch with reality will not be frowned upon.

The whole problem here is that the seller has no idea what the card even is and therefore can not know the value of what he has.

yes, pretty stupid to tell Zieg that he will contact Topps to get a picture of the card! ;)

just redeem the damn thing to make sure the redemption doesn't expire before a buyer is found. Plus, chances are Topps hasn't created it yet until the redemption card gets registered or any pic they may send to someone with a redemption will just be a mockup pic and not the actual card.

How much is that redemption worth if redeemed? Three or four cases of 2012 Topps Archives?

Gotta agree here. I've dealt with Ziggy in the past and he's come across just like here...but there are no moral or "cool" points for throwing him under the "public" bus.
