I had the same question with the red threat, everything else is just colorI landed a pretty big card today, the 1998 Topps Gold Label Class 2 Red /50.
Obviously this isn't the same high orbit as the 1996 Mirror Gold or the 1998 Crusade Red, but it's in the neighborhood. The Gold Label Red parallels are numbered to 100, 50, and 25, so it's a tough run to complete. And with this Class 2 /50 pickup I finally got the run done. Except of course the 9 distinct 1/1's.
Also got a few more cards scanned this evening. This scanning project is going alphabetically, in the order I have the cards arranged, and I'm into the P's. Starting with Pacific. Here are a few from 1998...

This is the 1998 Pacific "In The Cage" Insert. This was a neat idea that they did for several years. Robbie is featured in the 1998 and 2000 insert sets.
There are some interesting features on this card. First, they slanted the Pacific logo on the front to look like it's parallel with the ground. Second, they die-cut the little holes in the batting cage. As someone with a bit of experience in making stuff, I'll bet this was a major hassle for whomever manufactured that die. There are a zillion little holes making up the "netting", and those holes somehow line up just right with the printing ink to make the netting appear real. The light and shadow effects look really good.
On the other hand the "cage" effect is totally bogus, because actual batting cages are much, much bigger than the batter. Also the back of the card has no attempt at a 3-D perspective like the front has. But whatever. This card is totally sweet, and I fully appreciate the effort that went into making it.

This one isn't rare or coveted, it's just cool. It's the 1998 Pacific "Red Threatt" Parallel. This set has three parallels, the Silver, Platinum Blue, and Red Threatt. The Platinum Blue was limited to (but not serial numbered to) a total of 67 copies, so it's damn rare for a 1998 card. But this Red parallel just looks cooler to my eye, even though it was much more common.
However, I can't figure out why this one is called "Red Threatt" as opposed to just "Red", like every other Pacific Red Retail parallel. Was the designer just a huge Sedale Threatt fan or what? If anyone knows...

Oh man the White Rose cards...was Alomar tough to find? It took me about fifteen years to track down the Trent Dilfer card from the 2002 set. I finally found it in a lot with four or five other car/card packs. I thought maybe I would be able to sell the others but upon researching, those seemed to be easier to find and not really worth anything. Plus the corners on the cards were pretty beat up from being in the packaging for so long, like how you will sometimes see on SLU's.
The 2002 football set was based on Ultra and had similar subtle differences (no back scan but you can see the logo is different as well as the Seahawks helmet and some of the foil).

One of my all time favorite rainbows is the 1998 Donruss Signature Autograph series. Pack-issued cards were the "base" red card (PR 150 but not numbered), the "millenium marks" green card (SN 1000), and the "century marks" blue card (SN 100). These cards have such a nice design, and the colors are just brilliant.
In addition, some unsigned and un-numbered "executive proofs" also recently surfaced for each of the red, green, and blue cards. The red card has no number, but the green and blue are "numbered" with XXXX. I also stumbled on an autographed blue "sample" card, with no number but SAMPLE printed on back. This one was signed in black ink, whereas the pack-issued blue card was signed in blue ink. Believe it or not, I bought this one from cardcop!
There was also a series of gold "preview" cards, which were issued for a handful of players at the time. Robbie was not included in that preview set, but recently many more unreleased (and unsigned) gold preview cards surfaced. I think most players in the set had one.
