He's 15. It's within reason that he'd need someone to drive him to future games, so getting season tix for the family doesn't seem unreasonable. Plus, I'm sure they'll buy food, memorabilia, etc. etc. Bad move by the club.
For perspective, I have a Cal Ripken banner that hung from lightposts around Camden Yards during Ripken's final season. I think they can be had for between $50 and $75. I got it as a gift and was surprised that it cost so little.
My point was that it's by no means as clear cut as you implied. Zimmermann has a better ERA and better WHIP. Wainwright has a better K/BB. They're both 9-3. Take away one bad game in Baltimore's Little League field and Zimmermann's stats would be even more ridiculous.
Really, game over? Yeah, I'm a Nats fan, but I'd point out that Jordan Zimmermann has a lower ERA (2.00) and lower WHIP (0.887) than Wainwright and his WAR is 2.7 compared to Wainwright's 3.8. He also has 61 Ks vs. 13 walks, which isn't as good as Wainwright but is certainly impressive as well...
Really cool and really difficult, but it's not really accurate to say he wasn't looking, because I'm sure he saw the ball out of his peripheral vision as he was turning back to hand the other ball to the umpire. That being said, he makes it look so smooth, which is part of what makes it such a...
There are plenty of players who take the game very seriously -- as seriously as Votto, I'm sure -- who don't act like a child when things don't go their way. And what struck me about Votto was the number of outbursts and bad behavior over a four-game stretch. It wasn't just one helmet spike; it...
1992 was the first with gold foil and the first where they were an "insert," so they hold a special place in my heart. It also was the first time (and mostly only time) I ever pack-searched because if you got one Diamond King in a box, the other three would be on the same "level" in the box. So...
Votto came off as a real punk during the roadtrip to Washington, spiking his bat after a strikeout, glaring at umpires, throwing things in the dugout...

I think this contextualizes what a lot of people think when they remember Vlad Guerrero and say, "Oh yeah, he's a Hall of Famer. Easy." One of the best players in the league for a good period of time, with solid longevity=HOF in my book.
This has nothing to do with the baseball card set, but here's an article about how chocolate pies have essentially become currency in North Korea. Pretty fascinating stuff: Choco Pie Withdrawal: North Koreans Crave Favorite Treat From South | TIME.com
Topps Wall Art
Kind of a cool idea, giant oversized cards that can hang on a wall... I'd get one for my brother for his birthday of Cal Ripken. But what's up with the selection??? For instance, there's no Ripken rookies, the traded or the regular topps issue. You get to pick from: 83 through...
