The supers and canaries don't visually "pop" on the base chrome set either. I picked up the David Ortiz canary for a buddy of mine and it is a nice enough looking card, but hardly something that aesthetically catches your eye in a major way.
Also bear in mind that people are increasingly 'prospecting' or investing in (non-prospect) superfractors and 1/1s which buoys their prices/makes them artificially expensive if you will.
