i might buy Leaf Tennis. ESPECIALLY if there are no stickers and Boris is on the checklist

Gimme Steffi Graf

Been waiting years for an on card auto of her... loved watching her when I was a kid.

i was a fan of hers for a LONG time (starting when she played Girls Doubles with Gabby).
That being said, i lost all respect for her when she slept with Andre Fagassi

Somebody had to create a tennis super player.... we will see if he grows up to play tennis... or sticks with baseball.

Im not a big fan of the design of this set. For golf, I would much rather have a classic white design then the chrome multi-colored design used for the baseball and football sets, and I think many major golf collectors will feel the same way. I don't know if it will effect the secondary market value on these cards though since it has been so long since a golf release.

Completely agree on all points. Golf is not a "chrome" sport, and I sort of think it's becoming much too easy to tell the "new" leaf from the old leaf, I'd like to kind of stay true to the company's past. Still feels like Razor.

Curious, do you feel like a majority of the 2011 Topps Baseball products are like "the old Topps"?

Baseball wasnt a chrome sport form the 1880's to 1993.
If we can make the trasition form cardboard to chrome in baseball after over 100 years of conditioning, I bet Golf cards (which are 30 years old) can easily handle the transition too.

and, if not.... future sets won't be metal! Its that easy... Well let the market decide...

I like the idea of a golf set. And for the most part, the design looks good. I will say though that the "Metal" aspect does get a little old after a while. I mean, hey, if it works so be it but I, as a collector, would like to see a more intriguing offering rather than the same type of card for each sport. But I guess this is no different than Topps Chrome for baseball, basketball, and football. Its a line that you see fit to market to the public.

I was very excited to see the "prismatic" design come back to the market, but my fear is that it will become too watered down with this type of card and people will start to shy away from the design aspect and uniqueness of the cards themselves. This is why Crusades do so well today. They were only offered for a year or so over various products with limited quantities and thats it. No more. I just don't want to see a good thing that you've done backfire and turn collectors off.

I challenge you Brian to come up with some new set names and designs that we haven't seen before and challenge our wallets too. Make us bite on something totally unique and interesting. It may not be a set name that is new but something fresh that we haven't seen. People loved the Goodwin releases from Upper Deck. People loved the Heritage lines from Topps as well as A&G. People enjoy Donruss Classics and Gridiron Gear as well as Threads and EEE. Lets see what you can do on something like those sets to captivate our minds and make us want to spend tons on those products. While your products to this point have been pretty much spot on and have had great fanfare, I would like to see a more mid range product where we do get several hits per box instead of the higher end stuff that you've put out to this point.

That was my first impression, too. However, I also think it might be cool if each year every sport had the same design for a base auto.

THIS IS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT!!!!!
Thank you.... for a well thought out detailed argument...
I accept the challenge! That is why I am here after all.. to LISTEN!

I can tell you that after products currently in production, METAL is primarily going to be for rookie driven products...
We are already developing several different "vintage" and unique technology lines for late 2012.

You also make a great point on price point.. Ill work with my team on finding some middle ground...

BG

P.s.- I do think Legends of Sport is a step in the direction of non-metal quality items... we just have to figure out how to make some more moderately priced items that still deliver value...

Agreed... we are backing way off on Metal in non-prospect products... however, I think a metal insert form time to time is ok too!

BG, I do agree that Legends of Sport is a refreshing step in the right direction. One thing I really wish is that the licensing boards would give more licenses so that companies could make cards with logos of teams again. Nothing against LOS, but it really does gripe me that you have to use airbrushed photo stock. I am going to watch the product closely to see how the reception is on it. I think though it is a step in the right direction.

And I'm glad that you will look into a mid range price point product. I think you guys can compete with the likes of the aforementioned product lines from other mfgs. You just have to find the right niche to jump on the wagon.

I was at a local Dollar Tree here yesterday, and noticed a bunch of packs of cards, and bought some Panini. Wasn't impressed at all. How hard is it to make a card that doesn't look generic??

Everything I post on the BASEBALL board is BASEBALL related.

If I went to the Football board and seen NASCAR posted there, I wouldn't like it either.

And there's no reason to start calling people names.

And if you miss something because it's not posted on THIS forum, then that means you should frequent OTHER sections on this forum. The baseball section isn't the ONLY one that people use.

Maybe if people would post this stuff in the APPROPRIATE place, then that would breath life into those forums as well.
Sam, you seem to be the ONLY person who has a problem with this thread. Don't like it, don't click it. SIMPLE AS THAT. If it was posted in the "appropriate" forum I would not have seen it, unless it was linked on this forum.

~Yes, I am sure the golf forum would be thriving had this thread been posted there....hell, we might have even gained like 400 members on this site because of it!~

Give it a rest, Sam.

Love the idea. and although it was a joke the member who posted the barkley video, i think that brings up a good idea. to have an celebrity auto insert set. maybe only 20 or so of each person to keep cost low. but make it like the celebrities that are known for golfing.

a few suggestions, but there are a ton out there. even a low pop average named list might be popular.

dennis quad
bill murray
samual l. jackson
mark wahlburg
Matthew McConaughey
george lopez
jack nicholson
ray romano
adam sandler
unlikely but michael jordan
charles barkley
