All this talk about him being old, guess what.......he is. It is a part of life. Just like everyone bitching about musials decline in some of his autos. They are old men and a bit shaky. If you don't want one, don't buy one. If you prefer an older signature go buy one of them.

I think it all comes down to personal taste with these. Personally I would never consider buying a Steiner Aaron for $350, but for $40, with a decent shot it is the ball that is not in great shape, I went in for 3. Hopefully I'll get at least a couple nicer ones, they'll make a great incentive in school for my students, I can cut it up for a custom card, and worst case scenario I have a messy signature of one of the all-time greats for under the price of a box of Topps.predatorkj said:steve-a-reno said:Could the sigs be more legible, sure, but if mine end up like the ones chris and casey got I'll be thrilled. As much as this baord preaches about quality, this thread must be an anamoly or something. Look, nobody is bitching. Of course Aaron is old. Our point is take the money, and buy a nice clean auto on a nice ball. Doing anything else usually means you are desperate. Now, if you purchased these because you are of the ilk who can't afford a better copy, kudos. Nothing wrong with that. But if you have the money to burn and you purchased one of these hoping to get a nice ball, it was a odd chance to take knowing it was blemished in some way.

I was very upfront about the damage and showed both people the COA's that state they're imperfect balls. So in the end I made 90 bucks and got to keep the best one for myself. Not bragging, by any means, just putting more information out there on how great of a deal I think these balls are at 36 dollars(what I paid, they are slightly more now) a piece delivered. I think there are a LOT more people out there who'd rather pay 100 bucks for a ball that's slightly imperfect then there are people who want to spend 300 plus for a "perfect" ball.

Not to sound like a jerk but if you guys are buying autos of guys from steiner...lets just say you are wasting your money.
I'm not directing this post at you either Orion. Just in general. Steiner is one of the most overpriced companies and you only deal with them when you have to. For Aaron, you really don't have to.

no one on here is buying standard markup stuff from steiner

+1. We're talking about buying Hank Aaron autographed baseballs that are slightly imperfect for 40(I only paid 30) dollars plus shipping. Take these same balls to any local show(around here anyways) and mark them up 300% and they'll sell all day long. Just saying.
Edit. I wanted to add that the two people I sold the balls to bought them to re-sell. They'll make $50, minimum, on them as well.
predatorkj said:I guess ya'll missed the part where I said the post wasn't directed at you Orion? Must have. In any case, a few here seem to think that they saved hundreds of dollars. Yes. They did. If they were buying from Steiner.
As for marking them up at shows and selling them, that is a great idea. But if someone is out there at that show buying them from you and then flipping them(which based on your math, they'd have to ask $170 to make their $50) they aren't selling to your normal autograph collector. I can't name a person I know that would touch it at that price if it has belmishes. Hell, they didn't even want them at the $40. Most of the big money in the autograph industry is made on people who are either desperate to have an auto or just don't know the market. I know because I have been on the receiving end of both before. And I learned. Though you still get sucked in from time to time. I paid $100 at Tristar for Earl Campbell because I needed him on my HOF Oilers mini and he isn't looking too good health wise these days. I also paid $40 for Mike Munchak. Is his auto worth $100 to me? No. Is Munchak's worth $40 to me? No. Is having that helmet finished completely and having to only pay for Campbell and Munchak worth it to me? You bet. I was desperate to get those two as they are tough to come by and I wasn't waiting when I had the chance.
So I somewhat understand why people may have bit on the Aaron ball. I was just saying, your normal auto collector won't normally do that.
orion9578 said:Nope, I saw you say you weren't talking to me, clear as day. I felt like responding. If/when they sell Hank Aaron autographed baseballs with slight imperfections with Steiner COA's for 30 dollars, I'm buying another 3. Basically I don't care that you don't think it's a deal(or you think it is) or that you can get this or that elsewhere for a better price. I can triple my money on them every time. The people buying them from me will make $50+ dollars every time. The people buying the balls from them love the items they buy. The people buying them don't sit around and search out the best deals possible like you or I or probably 99% of this boards would. I'm not pushing Steiner or any other company. I've ONLY said that THIS deal was a good deal.
