Allen Webster was the pitching prospect #Cubs wanted for Ryan Dempster. Turns out, he’s getting traded for a RH starter (+more) after all.

Had to rub that one in JP? I'd have loved to seen him for Demps

Thanks guys. Either way, looks like a future #3 starter for us....(oh wait, #4....Lackey is signed through 2015 ::facepalm:: )

Sox cleaning out trash here. I'm sure Lackey will not be on Sox. Maybe to just show he is back from surgery and can throw, then they move him out asap. Maybe back to Anaheim for Wells. Swap bad contracts for each other.

Lackey would be a tough contract to swallow, and I'm not sure any team is willing to trade even a bag of balls for him at this point. As much as I hate Lackey I say let him be our #5 next season and see what he can do. If he pitches decently maybe we can get a prospect out of him at next years trade deadline, we would still have to eat some contract but it would get the clown out of Boston.

Looks like the trade is imminant. Everyone has been scratched from the lineups. Loney was called into Mattingly's office. This would be huge for the Dodgers. This year and going forward. A-Gone's contract is a bargain compared to Votto, Prince, and Pujols. Beckett would do better in a different environment and in the NL. Just keep the video games and fried chicken out of the clubhouse!:)

If this trade goes through does it mean that the Sox sign Ellsbury long term?

Dioesn't Ellsbury want out of Boston?

I know I wouldn't want to sign him to a $$$ contract.

2005 (A-): 35 games - 1 HR
2006 (A+,AA): 111 games - 7 HR
2007 (MLB-AAA-AA): 137 games - 5 HR
2008 (MLB): 145 games - 9 HR
2009 (MLB): 153 games - 8 HR
2010 (MLB,AAA,AA,rk): 27 Games - 0 HR
2011 (MLB): 158 games - 32 HR
2012 (MLB,AAA,AA,rk): 53 Games - 2 HR

2005+2006+2007+2008+2009+2010+2012 = 32 HR
2011 = 32 HR

Agree 100%.

Gonz has a very friendly contract compared to other superstar 1B....I don't know a whole lot about Loney's defense but I do know that Gonz is a HUGE upgrade in that respect. I think Dodger fans will like him 'ok'. :)

Crawford showed this year that he can still hit just fine and last season was just an off year for him.

Punto....well hit bat stinks but we lose a really good utility infielder....his defense is great at every IF position.

Ellsbury's value is not based off his HR totals. Just sayin'....

all these big contract busts make Ortiz contract seem like a real bargain... I say move Elsbury now while he possibly has trade value as well and just start over. Roll players like Cody Ross have been more productive this season than most of the high paid veterans. Dump these contracts and be a player on the free agent market!

I hope this deal gets done and the Sox can start over without all that $$$ hanging over the team's head.

Granted, no one forced them to give those contracts out.

I think it is possible that a front office/ownership group may have finally learned their lesson that team chemisty will trump throwing dollars at players every time.

Yeah, now I am glad this season has been so goddamnawful. Sox paying all that $ for players who didn't produce. Red Sox FO gets a ton of crap all season and changes are being made. Benny C is cleaning up the mess that 'genius' Epstein made. All of this had to happen for them to get the crap together and build for the future not pay for the present.
