So, let me ask you this, how many closers, with experience, are currently out on the market?

it would have been nice to get Bell though

Yes, because the 2nd to last place team in the league should go out and get Heath Bell. Closer is the last spot they need to worry about, which is why the Capps signing is great. People forget that he isn't far removed from being a really good closer. Twins get him cheap and if he can rebound to what he used to be, he'll be a good trade chip down the line. Anyone who thinks this is a bad signing is far from intelligent.

I'm not a huge fan of Capps though I can understand the move. I'd rather had the Nationals pull the trigger on Storen and Lombardozzi for Span though.

Twins traded Slowey to the Rockies for a PTBNL. Don't really care who we get for him as we would have non-tendered him anyway. Plus I'm pretty sure that clears up a spot on the 40 man roster for someone new to come in. Also looks like the Twins offered Cuddyer 3 years $24 million. That would be less than he made last year but I wonder if anybody has offered him more than 2 years? We may still have a chance at signing him but if some other teams offers him 3 years and more money I'm sure he's gone.

I think 3 for $27-30M gets a Cuddyer deal done
I know people are pissing and moaning not to sign him to a deal like that, but lets be honest, he is the most durable and valuable player in the clubhouse, in the community and on the field. He is an all around leader. That to me is all built into that type of deal. Piss and moan all you want Twins fans, the Twins will not be getting any of the top 15 free agents out there, so might as well take the most talented in house free agent and keep him in a Twins uniform his entire career.

I like how you got defensive before anyone even commented on Cuddyer.

Twins have a handful of outfield prospects coming up in the next couple years which is one reason you don't want to lock up Cuddyer to anything more than a two year deal. That being said, they need Cuddyer to help them compete in 2012 unless they get a guy like Josh Willingham or re-sign Kubel for a fraction of the price in which case you're praying other players like Morneau can stay healthy. I think the Twins have 2-3 other holes that are more pressing than clubhouse presence and community work.

I agree with that statement. I think it is important to bring Cuddyer back for several reasons, but we can't afford to overpay him because we are already overpaying several players on the team. Pitching should be the top priority right now and although they are a few years away, we have plenty of outfield depth in the minors (Benson, Hicks, Arcia, and most likely Sano).

Terry Ryan says he is planning on shooting for the playoffs this year. I don't see us doing that with or without Cuddy however especially without Cuddy. We have a ton of young outfielders correct. With good leadership at the position it should help those young outfielders flourish. Thats why its only a 3 year contract for a guy who can play multiple positions and brings great bench presence and intangibles to the community. If one of those Young guns starts to really surprise I'd much rather trade Morneau and keep Cuddy and put Cuddy at 1b or even DH or 2b. We need right handed bats more then lefties especially with Delmon gone now. I don't see Kubel as a leader type and I don't think we should keep Kubes and Cuddy.

Thing is, if the Twins trade Morneau, what the heck could they even get for him?

Not much but the money off the books is the most appealing thing to me. I say give him this year to get it back going though but near the playoffs if he doesn't look right get him off the books somehow.

Is anyone going to the Tapani signing on Saturday?

I hope to be attending. It will be my first baseball signing in a while

I'll probably be there after I pick up a Bobble for Neshek at the Moundsview show. Kevin is a solid guy and a great signer. Don't have much to have him sign though.

I am going to start a collection of Twins ROMLBs, so I want to add Tapani this time. I missed Laudner but he signs cheap at Twinsfest with 2-3 other guys.
