We are paying Willy freakin' Taveras $4 million per...so, I think $5 million for a potential ace is a GREAT deal for a team like the Reds. If he shapes up, the Reds have one of the best (if not the best) young rotations in the game by 2011:

Cueto
Chapman
Volquez
Bailey
Leake

+ 1
doubt it.

Wait, let me guess...........

He'll claim the Giants stack up better for the future, and he'd be right. Let Volquez start throwing before we assume he's 100% for 2011 (take a look at the year Liriano just had as a possiblility for what he may be when he gets back). Bailey just started showing flashes in the majors in the second half of '09 after getting crushed the past few years. He has plenty of time on his side, but I think it's fair to say he has plenty more to prove before he can be relied upon. Cueto has been very inconsistent, despite very good stuff. I think you're getting a tad carried away with a VERY raw group of arms. Upside does not equal success.
They do not have 1 established pitcher who has been healthy and been solid for a few years. 1 is super raw (Chapman). Volquez is coming off a pretty bad injury/surgery. Cueto is still learning/raw and inconsistent and I am not a believer in Bailey. Leake j ust got drafted (But i like his stuff).

No way they can be considered the best when staffs like the yankees, red sox, giants, cardinals, mariners exist...

Ah, I wasn't the one who said anything about the Reds. I was just commenting on the fact that the guy turns any conversation into one about Lincecum/Giants. For the record, I wouldn't put money on any young pitcher to be better than the next.

umm no.

edit: I don't see why you listed Cueto number 1 as your ace. He has a 4.40 era and a 6.9 k/9 ratio.

I like the thought of that. Development will be a big issue for Cueto and Chapman though. It is nice to see them spend money on someone who I think is worth something. Corey Patterson still pisses me off from 2008.
