It's not like Topps doesn't do the same stuff. Just when you think you've got THE card of a guy, BOOM, here's a variation that kills the old one.

Topps always inserts parallels of their Bowman Chrome cards in different variants in different sets.

Just the other day I pulled a Purple Bowman CHrome Harper auto out of Topps Tier One.

::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm::

How about the people who pulled a Topps Series 1 Hope Diamond out of Topps Updates and Highlights, or the people who pulled a Heritage Chrome out of Topps Chrome?

We are talking prospect auto cards here, yes there is some resemblance in what your saying, but it's not a apples/apples comparison.

Ok, how about Ackley having 2 first bowman chrome autographed cards.

Was one inserted in Topps Tripple Threads? Were they both the exact same card, from the same set?[/quote:2xpcpz3b]

Topps did that with the Team USA 18U team in the wrapper redemptions. Also this was as JP posted revealed 2 months ago, so if it was such a big deal people could have refrained from purchasing.[/quote:2xpcpz3b]

Again, I dont consider it a 'big deal', but that does not mean I dont think it is not a positive. Also, and I'll ask this again because no one seems to want to comment on it...

Just playing devils advocate here, but can you dig up on the LEAF web site, or any Leaf affiliated source like his FaceBook page, where he announced this?

Or is a blurb on a messageboard considered an "announcement" these days?

I have already said regarding this issue I don't see the big deal.

However, what does it fracking matter if Topps does it too? What a lame crutch to have in this debate IMO.

I would say yes posting to a website, and then through a press release of a product now counts as announcing. For the record too, I own two players cards from Metal. I own no Valiant yet, but plan on buying some of two players, and figure that they still have a ton of room for growth.

While I don't think any of what you have posted is exactly the same as this situation -- just because Topps does it -- does that make it right?

Are we still sucking at Topps' **** too? I thought that Leaf was supposed to be for the collector (or investor...happy prospecting!). This isn't for the collector.

It's 50 cards, and another card. That is exactly for the collector. Limiting the amount is for the investor, not the collector. As someone who collects two players from this product, not invests, it makes me happy to see more alternatives.

Actually it does seem like it is for the collector. It's not for the investor...

Good grief, it's yet another embarrassing pat on his own back, knife in Leaf's back post from the resident lawyer.

Took me a while, but I found the thread in which BG announced Purples would be inserted into RR.

Well then there you have it no surprises here although I kinda agree with Jeff here. 2008 is still fresh for alot of us. If he doesnt add products based on these two all should be ok.

Apologies to you, Jeff and anyone else who was expecting a thread in which he announced it in bold, 80-point font.

It's exactly what I've been saying. Deja vu.

....thanks for including those extra Purple ones in Rookie Retro, Leaf.

Makes me wish I hadn't ever told ya'll about the lottery laws that would have doomed your initial Rookie Retro...

Can you please let us know in advance when the Metal Pete Rose, the Metal Leaf Valiant, and the Valiant Leaf Metal Draft will be coming out, and what product they'll be released in, or on their own?

THanks!

There is no need to be a jerk. We stated DAY ONE that purple parallels would be in Rookie Retro.

(1) THERE IS NO METAL PETE ROSE. I KNOW YOU WERE BEING A JERK IN ASKING THIS QUESTION, BUT THERE ARE NO ADDITIONAL ROSE PRODUCTS. He may appear on a Legends checklist at some point though.
(2) After purple parallels, there are no 2011 baseball parallels left and there are no additional plans for 2011 Baseball products. Our next sets will be 2012 SPRING.

BG

p.s.- on your grab bag argument, my counsel does NOT agree with you. However, (1) we believe it adds a LEAF identity to the product, so we will continue the tradition and (2) we honestly dont want to open the door for small time lawyers attempting to create a nuisance should they agree with your position (no major firm would ever take an unlikely to prevail contingency case like this anyways)....

God knows he knows how to make an announcement. It's no surprise that this came as a surprise to almost all of us.

I was ashamed to see this thread because BG has always been actively seeking to satisfy what we want to see - taking opinions, feedback, polls, and putting those into action.

25 purple cards (which dont exist anywhere else) of an established player with not that many autos to begin with is not going to kill anything. There are only about 100 Ichiro autos in Valiant anyways.

Print all the prospects on purple and insert them into Rookie Retro, ok maybe you'd have a point as I felt the same way about all the Heritage chrome reprints that are inserted into Topps Chrome. I bought a few boxes of TC this year and during the first box, I was like "Oh cool!!!! We have all these same heritage chrome cards from a few months ago, except these have a TC logo instead of a Heritage logo." Is this really necessary? That truly is a way to water down the product and crank the presses to spread out "hits".
