Please inform me but Am I missing something here? Max Scherzer is what 25/26? and I know his ERA was over 4.00 in the NL..... So please fill me in, why are they so hesitant to trade Max?

All comments would be helpful, Thanks.

Shep :ugeek:

because he has two different color eyes.

Well.... thanks for clearing that up ;)

Shep :ugeek:

Maybe the NL is full of dog lovers?

Or maybe its because he looks like a Husky :?:

Why wouldn't they be hesitant? He's young, very talented, cheap, cheap for a while and has had success in the bigs already, despite pitching in a hitter friendly park with a bad defense. There's nothing in this proposed deal that is worth moving him for, that's why I imagine they're hesitant.

Well dang! 4+ ERA is considered talented now? not trying to be a smarta$$.... and I can see where your coming from on the age thing and price.

But if they wouldn't move him for Ajax Or Granderson they are a poorly ran baseball team.... Even though that's not the proposed "deal".

I hope I understood your comment right, it came off as if you said there was noone in these talks worth trading Max for.

No, I meant nothing in this proposed deal, as in what they're getting in the propsed deal. That being said, it would probably be a bad decision to trade him for Austin Jackson, and because of their payroll, the makeup of their team and the salary he does/will command, it probably wouldn't be a wise decision to trade him for Granderson, unless they were going to immediately flip him for something else. As for the 4+ ERA, hitters park, bad defense, and the age/experience. If he can stay healthy, he's likely a 1-2 starter on the cheap who can back up Haren, maybe Webb.

Jackson has more experience then Scherzer.
Jackson's ERA was .4 lower then Scherzer with Jackson pitching in the AL.

Jackson could potentially have an ERA a full run lower then Scherzer if he pithched in the NL. IMO

I love Max because in his first game with the Dbacks he struck out 7 and threw no hit ball for 4 1/3 innings! If he can stay healthy I could see him, Webb and Haren doing big things to help the Dbacks compete in 2010!

Either way the Dbacks need a lot of help and that is so true that Edwin could be potentially deadly in the NL!!!!

I like Jackson, always have, but he's basically been an underacheiving tease up until last year, and he even started coming back to earth later in the season. Yes it's the AL, but it's the AL Central and he pitches half his games in Comerica. Scherzer is like a year or so younger than Jackson, so who's to say that Scherzer won't have a breakout year like Jackson did last year? He K'd over a hitter per inning and didn't walk many, his FIP was actually lower than Jackson's and had a way too high BABIP. I'll be surprised if Jackson outperforms Scherzer next year.

Also just the fact that the DBacks are even entertaining offers
means that they have absolutlely no intention of bringing Webb back

Wow, the Yankees would be giving up pretty much nothing for Granderson, but somehow the Tigers would improve their pitching and the D-Backs get, well, to keep a smaller payroll, I guess, and have another chip (Edwin) to trade to a contender down the stretch?

Hats off to Cashman if this one goes through.

Blockbuster deal

Doesnt there have to be great players involved for it to be a blockbuster deal? One above average player and a bunch of nobodies doesnt make it a blockbuster deal.

It is to the fans of the teams involved. Jackson and Granderson were all stars this year.

So you now base talent on stats? If that is the case then you might as well fire all scouts and draft players based off a computer. If you have EVER WATCHED HIM PITCH, then you would realize that he is Uber talented. Just like Edwin Jackson has been very talented for years. Did Edwin have a good year in his first 3-4 years? Answer me that. But was he any less talented? No, of course not.

I watched Jay bruce last year. He batted what, .260? But was it blatantly obvious that he is PACKED with talent? Yep.

One more point. Porcello had an ERA of 3.96, does that mean he has a lack of talent? I would be willing to say that Max Scherzer has better overall stuff than Rick Porcello. I 100% believe that.

If that deal {Jackson trade} is dead, the Diamondbacks might turn their attention to another pitcher they have discussed, Texas right-hander Kevin Millwood, who is set to make $12 million in the final year of his contract.

Millwood hasn't lived up to his $60 million deal with Texas, but he has been an innings-eater who has averaged 189 innings with a 4.57 ERA over the past four years. He had a 3.67 ERA in 198 2/3 innings this season. The Diamondbacks almost certainly wouldn't be able to absorb his contract in full, at least not without including some payroll of their own in the deal.

The Diamondbacks also were linked to free-agent reliever J.J. Putz and first baseman Nick Johnson. Putz, a former closer in Seattle who was limited to just 29 games with the Mets last season due an elbow injury that required surgery, could make sense for the Diamondbacks on a low-risk deal.

Though Johnson's on-base skills would be a boost to the offense, he might not fit, especially if the Diamondbacks spend much of their remaining budget on pitching

I think Edwin Jackson is a LOT better than some people seem to want to give him credit for. Guy was a monster for the first half of the season and although he fell off a little down the stretch, if I'm not mistaken he was in the top 10 for AL ERA all season.

He also got "cheated" out of a number of wins by a questionable bullpen and an inconsistent offense.

He's good, I was wishing Detroit would try to keep him around because I think he makes the Tigers a better team.

Porcello has faired better then Scherzer in his first year at age 20..... Max has five years on Porcello and struggling.

Yeah I see your points and they are valid and I HAVE seen Scherzer pitch and he does have "flashes" but he better start putting the talent together on paper too.

I wouldn't go as far as saying he has better "stuff" then Porcello because that's just not true.... seen both pitch and Porcello's stuff rivals or is equal to Scherzer's and like I said before he's only 20 and it was his first year.

But ofcourse your entitled to your opinion, and I do think if Arizona is trying to save payroll then that's not the way to go as Edwin will need a new contract soon....

You wouldn't happen to have a Scherzer stash would you? just kidding..... see sig

I can say he has better stuff than Porcello. Does that mean he is/will be a better pitcher, no.

Do you mean after the 2010 season? Webb already had his contract picked up for 2010.

You take away one bad start from Scherzer and he is a pretty good pitcher. Plus his last few starts were really good. I know this as he is on my fantasy team :D and I think a real sleeper this year regardless of where he goes.

11:51am: Morosi sees progress being made, while MLB.com's Steve Gilbert thinks this thing is close; the Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro agrees.

Yankees giving up Ajax, Kennedy, Coke and Dunn for Granderson? Seems like too much.
