I am a 17 year old Pirates fan. Scratch that. I am a 17 year old FORMER Pirates fan. I looked past it when they traded Jason Bay for Craig Hanson, Andy LaRoche and Brandon Moss. I was kinda upset but i got over it when they traded Nady and Marte for Ohlendorf, Karstens, and Tabata. I am livid right now. I went to the Pirates' games Monday and Tuesday vs. the Mets. Paid $35 dollars per ticket to see my favorite player, Nate McLouth. Why? Cuz i love the pirates, even though they suck. Ive stuck with them as long as i can remember, go to 15-20 games per year. I am just completely discouraged right now about my card collection, my love for the game has taken a big big hit. It sucks, it truely truely sucks.

Great Trade for The Pirates. They add another blue-chip outfielder to the mix. Reminds me of when they stole tabata from the yankees.

and as has been mentioned, 'CUTCH TIME!!!

I think Nyjer playing like a leadoff hitter this year allowed McLouth to be expendable. Especially with McCutchen ready...

And to all the other Pirates fans, the ownership has made it clear that the team needs to add talent at all positions. Like it or not, this trade achieved that goal.

2009 HRs:

Current Braves' OFers-10

McLouth-9

:o

And with McCutch waiting, it works for both teams. But it still has to be deflating to see the Pirates trade away another All-Star for future players.

Oh wait, I'm an A's fan, so I can certainly sympathize. And we haven't had 17 strait dud years .

The difference between the A's and Pirates in the last 15 or so years is that the A's minor league system wasn't garbage.

Schuerholz must have had a few extra cups of coffee today - he releases Glavine, calls up Hanson and trades for McLouth within a few hours.

I think this is a great trade for both teams. people in Pittsburgh are angry about McClouth being traded but he isn't as good as everyone is making him out to be. he is hitting .256 with 9 home runs and 34 rbi's. that's good but not great. he had one good season and hasn't shown the same spark so far this season that he did last season. he is a solid player both offensively and defensively but I will not miss him.

however I am very excited to get 2 decent pitchers and another outfield prospect. the Pirate's outfield was over crowded and something had to be done and with Morgan out of options and proving to be a good lead-off hitter and a base stealing threat he had to stay.

:D plus it's time to see what McCutchen can do :D

Hard to duplicate his season from last year given the lineup in which he bats. A lot of his production came when Bay & Nady were still around (protecting). Adding him in with the Braves lineup will do wonders for his stats. The only question (to me) is how he performs under the pressure of a pennant chase?

I'm not sure how i feel about the trade at this point. I'm not blown away by the return the Pirates are getting, but at the same time I do think McLouth needed to be traded while his value was still relatively high. I didn't like committing that much money to a player who had one breakout year.

Hopefully Cutch will be in the lineup this afternoon. I was planning on heading down to the ballpark anyway, but his ML debut would be a nice added bonus.

I understand he didn't have a lot of protection in the Buc's lineup this season but he just doesn't seem to have the same pop he had last year. time will tell if he can live up to his hype but I would guess he will not.

Mark according to Pirates.com McCutchen will be starting in centerfield today and making his Major League debut. make sure you go and have fun.

I think you'll really enjoy following Gorkys, he's a treat to watch. I'd be shocked if there was a better CF in the minor leagues. He's still having some issues with a leg injury, I think, so his speed numbers are down, but I'm sure they'll come around. Anyone telling you Gorkys is mediocre is clueless.

Locke is puzzling, as a lot of people (my self included) had higher expectations. He'll have a great start, some bad starts, average starts. Hopefully he'll become more consistent as he ages in the Pirates farm system and his defenses pick him up more (a problem he had in Rome and I've heard he's had in Myrtle Beach)

I was never too high on Charlie Morton, beyond that hot stretch in the Fall League. Before his AFL run, his name really wasn't talked about much. His first ML run was below average with a good start or two, but nothing really impressive. I might be too low on the guy, but I can see him being an alright back of the rotation guy.

I think the Braves got a steal. McLouth is on pace for another 20/20 season and he was playing in a horrible lineup with no protection. Now he moves to the Braves and a team that has a chance to contend.
