Saw him on ESPN this morning giving an interview about ARod. The kid has worked hard and deserves to be starting in CF opening day. What do you guys think?

Did I just see that they gave him number 11 to wear?

That's got to be the lowest non retired number they have left.

That speaks volumes.

It's the scorching hot weather. The ball carries much better. I want to see him put up these kind of numbers in the Bronx.

And what type of weather do you think the Bronx has in the summer? It isn't exactly cool here from June to September.

Just remember though, Gardner has done this before, with little results later on. Although, he hasn't ever been handed a legit chance at starting until now.

My nickname for Melky is "Bushleague". That pretty much says who I think should be their Opening Day CF.

Gardner has no HRs during his 127 ABs with the Yanks, as he has next to no power, yet has already hit 3 out in ST. I believe the heat (and humidity) has at least something to do with it.

I really like the guy hope he can keep it up. He seems like he is a hard worker and doesn't have the big ego. Personally if he doesn't a ton of home runs I am ok with that as long as he can get on base and make things happen and play solid defense.
He kind of reminds me of Bubba Crosby. He didn't have a ton of power but could lay down a bunt, steal bases, and hit. I always felt he never got a fair chance in NY. Hope this doesn't happen to Gardner.

Can anyone explain why Swisher doesn't start there? Didn't he play CF? And if not, why not move Damon to CF then Swisher to LF? It's not like Gardner has an arm, so Damon there really makes no difference.

First time in a while that I can remember the Yanks having a speedy lead off guy.

What about Damon or Soriano?
While Damon and Soriano are fast guys they also provide 20+ HR power. I believe Gardner is quicker than those two and is more of a "table setter" That is the kinda player he was at College Of Charleston .... speed, avg. and hard worker. I'm glad for him.

I think he would do well. He has great wheels, and seems to be a good contact hitter.
