I always come in on the end of these rants...so this thread will likely die now. How can people complain about someone setting a price that is higher than they want to pay? That is life. Sure some of there prices are so outrageous they draw a chuckle, but there are probably 5 other auctions for every overpriced one that i wish I spent the $ on at the time. In the meantime somebody else bought the card and I wish I had ponied up a few more bucks than I thought it was worth so I coudl now have it in my collection. When you have had no other opportunity to purchase the card the Burbank price you missed out on looks better and better over time... That being said I have had nothing but positive experiences dealing with Burbank. They are a last resort for adding to my collection but I have had good communication with them and good customer service as well.

If you don't like the prices they list then don't buy from them- what is there to complain about? That is pretty much the definition of whining to me. I hate whining.

Here are a few cards I have bought from Burbank raw and got graded. I have yet to see another of each card since buying them over a year and half ago. That is all I have to say about Burbank, no complaints here.

People complaining about scans, when you have an inventory in the millions, I guarantee you wouldnt scan every card for every person that asks
I am not normally in the trend of buying things that are high dollar without at least wanting to see them. How many times do you do that in real life? Ever buy a plasma tv without knowing what it looks like? Ever buy a car(which you could if you added up all the cards I need from them that are not scanned) without looking at it first? Hell...you even get to test drive a car right? Come on.

I think it's ridiculous for someone to say "BOYCOTT BURBANK", just because youre pissed off that you cant afford/have the card.
For many...its not that we couldn't afford the card. Its that its way out of the realm of reality. You saying that would be like me going to a store and bitching about a can of shaving cream that they want $200 for. And then the clerk telling me I am just mad because I can't afford it? Uh...no...how about you charge the $4 like the rest of the world does. It doesn't mean I couldn't afford it.

BTW, if everyone on this board boycotted them, their prices still would be the same.

And im sure theyve seen the many threads on here already

To counter your first point, lets use buying a car: people go to the car dealership to buy a car. Youre right, you dont buy sight unseen, however, it is almost mandatory now that you will pay for a CarFax Report on said car, describing everything about the car. If you dont pay for that, then you find out that is was submerged in a flood a couple years ago, or fell off the truck on the way to the shop, then thats your fault for not getting the CarFax. Same goes with BurBank: if you want the card bad enough, and are going to pay a high premium for it, then in reality a couple bucks for a scan is more of insurance for you than a nuisance.

Im not saying I really agree with their choice to do that, but, I cant argue against them doing it considering I might do the same if I had their inventory

Now, Youre comparing apples and oranges in the second paragraph

A can of shaving cream is not a rare item, and is produced in the billions. An autgraph card of Randy Johnson/6 is a rarity and therefore, people will pay more.

"How about you charge $4 like the rest of the world does...", it's Free Market and if people want to charge $200 for a $4 can of shaving cream, then let them. They'll either sink or swim.

And the thing is, it all starts back to the simple fact that if you dont like their prices or business, dont buy from them.

Actually...if you go to a dealership, the DEALERSHIP will give you a CarFax, you don't pay for it. Yes, you can pay for one PRIOR to going to look at the car, but if you go there, you don't have to pay for it - just like you SHOULDN'T have to pay to see a scan if you go to their site/ebay store.

With all that being said, yes, Burbank has some stuff I want (two Reynolds cards - both 1/1's). But they are significantly overpriced based on what I have paid for similar Reynolds cards in the past, so I will not purchase them. At the end of the day, they are their cards and they can sell them for whatever they want. Just like if you had rare cards, you'd probably want to get the most out of it you could. Now would you be willing to negotiate, probably, but that's where your business practices differ from theirs. They want what they're asking...more power to them.

Count me in as a person who probably won't ever buy from them. Afterall I don't really "need" any cards at all. Sure there are cards I'd love to own but I just don't "need" them that badly.
In looking at Burbank's feedback it seems that there are quite a few other people like me. I see a bunch of slaes but the vast majority of them are for $1 to $3 cards. Very few people seem to be paying their crazy prices.
As has been said before, those are their cards and they can ask whatever they'd like for them, I just won't everpay for something just because I need the instant gratification of it being available. If I want it I'm sure another one will come along eventually. I'll wait

Some of them are worth a good laugh though, especially for a Jason Jennings collector. They just put this one up for $107.00 2001 Don Signature Proofs Jason Jennings AU AUTO /25. It's a really nice card and all, but #01/25 sold on ebay a couple months ago for a whopping $4.25. So I really can't see anybody paying $107, but if that guy is out there... I desperately need to find him!

I have been eyeing some of their Hendersons over the years, and they are the same ones there year after year. To be honest, I wonder how they stay in business. They must get the cards dirt cheap and can afford to sit on them forever. I dont know any Henderson collector that is going to pay 5-6 times over Ebay average for any of their cards unless its one of their lower priced ones that you have been waiting around for. It is easier to blow $20-30 than $500+ for a tough card. They do have nice Henderson stuff though.

But some of their cards aren't that rare. And they overprice them. In any case...if its numbered to /25 or higher...I wouldn't touch one of their rare cards anyways. I am not complaining about their prices. I buy from them what I think is a decent deal. But you can't sit here and tell me that if I find their prices too high...I couldn't or shouldn't have anything to say. That really would be like you mentioning something to your wife about a used car place or a store charging a bit high for something and then her bitching you out for saying anything at all. I think why you continue to see the burbank threads is people continue to be frustrated with their lack of customer service and also with their prices. Its rare. So freakin what. I have things nobody else has. I could try to charge a million bucks for them and then tell you to frack off because you even begin to open your mouth about it. I just don't understand that logic.

Yeah...you have one guy who thinks he is selling at a fair price while the rest of the world(or most of it) disagrees. So if the rest of the world disagrees then they are whining?

Just figured I would throw this up. I just put 21 cards that I needed from Burbank into the shopping cart. These were all of their top of the line Hendersons. 1/1's 1/5's ect. The total was $7,562.37 for 21 cards. For the guys who love Burbank, explain how this is not ridiculous? They will never sell for what they are asking unless one of the Henderson guys hits the lottery.

Although Burbank has a couple cards I would like to add to my collection, I can not complain about their business model. I have purchased from them a couple times over the years and minus the fact they don't always have every card in a penny sleeve, I have been very happy. I was especially happy to land a steal from them for a card that I was specifically looking for and one I had wanted for years. I would have paid 5-10x what they put the BIN for (I think they listed it accidently under the wrong price) but they stuck with the purchase.

They have Bonds version listed at $750.

I look at it as good for them. Good for them that they have a successful enough business to where they can afford to wait it out. If their business ever slows down to a point where they need to bring in more capital than what they are then they will reduce prices appropriately to meet that need. So apparently they are selling enough or have sold enough to meet their financial needs at the current time. There appear to be plenty of people who are still buying from them.

I wonder how much business they would have if they had like a 1 day 50% sale..... I bet they'd sell more in one day than they do in an entire year.

On a side note, I've never bought from them because I'm not crazy. If I see a card that I like for a good price, I buy it. if I see one I like at a price that I think isn't good, I move on. Maybe I'm just weird, but there will always be another card to buy

Very poor business model. They don't sell a lot of cards and just keep paying ebay for all crap they list. Even if it isn't much, still adds up with all auctions they keep relisitng. If they had any clue on market value they could sell a ton and make some nice bank.

You obviously have no business knowledge based off that post

Poor model? Buying rare cards cheap and forcing collectors to pay their outrageous price knowing that said collector probably wont see that card again....that is possibly the best business model I can think of

Can you imagine how much profit they make off one card? Looking at those prices, im guessing on some of them, 200% profit...probably more on others.

Burbank aint broke, as evidenced by their continually posting new and more cards at newer and more outrageous prices

Sounds to me like youre just jealous along with nosterbor that you cant have the cards you want, because how can anyone say that is a bad business model is beyond me

Horible model. They could sell so much more and make way more. They don't sell many high end cards. In this economy it's terrible business model. Overprice all your cards and get lucky selling a few. I would guess for every one big sale they make, they lose out on 20 sales that would be nice profit if they had them priced right are did regular auctions.
