What look at NY Yankees and what they spend I will take the Pujols /Holliday over Tex,Jeter, and whoever they got STL pitchers are locked in affordably thats why the excess cash for hitters (hence Dave Duncan )

They aren't really locked in that affordably. Carpenter will make 15 mil each of the next two seasons. Pineiro is a free agent and will likely get 7-9 mil a year wherever he ends up due to a very shallow SP market. Brad Penny is 7.5 mil. Kyle Lohse is 9 mil this upcoming year with 12 apiece to follow the two years after that. The guy they got lucky on was Wainwright, who they locked up in '08. He makes under 5 mil next year.

This is huge! I'm so excited. Holliday can't turn this deal down and we've seen what Holliday and Pujols can do together.

Pineiro will not be back. With Wainwright, Carpenter, Lohse, and Penny; the 5th starter will come down to Blake Hawksworth, Mitchell Boggs, or Jamie Garcia.

If management makes smart moves around Holliday, Pujols, Waino, and Carp (lesser extent due to age) this team could be dominant for the next decade.

I must be in a minority here, but for that kind of money for Holliday, they could probably have signed..

Bay, Tejada, Smoltz, and Derosa....(ok, maybe 3 of the 4 and someone a bit lesser--but you get my point)

Sorry, but I just cant get this excited for the money Holliday would be getting. I think Holliday-Pujols-Ludwick is a great combination, and the pitching staff is pretty solid even with Jamie Garcia/Mitch Boggs as the 5th starter, but it just seems like the Cardinals would be a better team to let Holliday walk, take the draft picks, and go get 2 or 3 good bats and another starting pitcher......

Plus, with the extra draft picks, the Cardinals would have some room to make a deal if needed to bring in another big bat or arm before the trade deadline...

Bay, not the player Holliday is.
Tejada - Cheater/Rental
Smoltz - could still sign him, pen only
DeRosa - he is old/injured and wants a lot of money.

Pujols/Holliday - I need a drool smilie!

Devils advocate....

Bora$$ actually is holding out for a BETTER contract, selling it to Matt this way.

"Matt - We can find someone to get you 6 @ 120, and you know after those 6 years, I'll find you more than $4mm for 2 years."

Afterall, this is Bora$$, and there is a reason why he gets his clients the best possible deal.

His career numbers outside of Coors are .291/.350/.475. Ask the Cubs if they regret giving Soriano 8 years. Unless it's Albert Pujols giving anyone 8 years is a bad idea.

Actually they are VERY similar players

Bay OPS+ 131
Holliday OPS+ 133

The main difference between Holliday and Bay is defense. Holliday has a 6.9 UZR/150 and Bay is -7.9. Bay is essentially a DH at this point.

Back to baseball Atkins would do well I think because he would not be too depended on Put him in the 6 hole with Yadi or the new RF in 5 hole

so Like this
Shumack
Rasmus
Pujols
Holliday
Yadi
Atkins
RF??
P
Brendan Ryan

Well then it's the Cardinals offer or no team at all. I can not see any other team offering that much or more. Hopefully he is not that greedy, and with the Red Sox out of the running he better take that offer.

Him and Pujols make for a pretty good lineup

He is the one who screwed over Manny Ramirez if I remember correctly. So Holliday could end up in Los Angeles around Spring Training for a quarter of what he should have made.

Also its not totally 8 years its 5 or 6 guaranteed and 2 or 3 option years
If he tanks after 5 and has gaudy numbers the Cards can get out
Glad to warm your heart Banks = YADI ::facepalm::
If the cardinals are smart they will front load it like 20 million for the first 3 years so they have the extras to resign Albert
