What is the story with those silver laminate issues? Are those something you can pull off of a normal base card with the right equipment? I have a few Chipper and Andruw Jones that came in a large collection I bought. The seller attested they came from Topps Vault and I had no reason to doubt him. Now I am really curious.

I can tell you I've seen sheets the Printer made for finest etc with just the front , as well as just the back. So it could be hard to tell if they came from the sheets like that or home created. Just saying, as sell as looking at the one sellers lot of sheet type cards, you never know. At the same time, they could very well be faked aftermarket.

The fact that there are so many Galarragas and Vizquels, especially from the first seller with 0 feedback, certainly makes it look like two guys just trying to cash in. Not hard at all to get the fronts off a few Finest and Chrome and make your own "proofs".

I'm curious to what's the difference is between these and what the topps vault does? I'm not condoning this at all but I've seen guys buy 1984 topps uncut sheets and have the Mattingly's perfectly cut out and sell them for big money (keep in mind this was 30 years ago).

As for being homemade, I cant see that being possible. The cost and time involved wouldn't be worth it.

It is a little fishy that he only has the two guys for sale that certain PC collectors go nuts for.

It isn't hard to make these at home. The fronts of Chrome and Finest will separate easily after a bath and a little rubbing. I've done it myself.

Did you see the lot with multiple sheet cut "proofs" in your second link involving Galarraga? He didn't just create those at home, unless he had the sheets. So if he had sheets for all those, why not the Finest/Chrome ones too? Then if he had the sheets for all those in that group lot, he isn't listing any others beside the AGs etc. So this leads me to believe he has collected/bought these type proofs including the Laminate Fronts and is trying to flip them, or he has bought the sheets and cut them down and as of now he is just selling the hot players. IMO these are more viable than he happened to have a group of sheet cut "proofs" then created faked aftermarket Finest/Chrome proofs. Again, just my opinion.

I'm sure we have threads about these before. I seem to remember this being a topic once before with a different seller. I have a few of these in my O'Neill collection and back then the verdict wasn't good that these were true proofs. These were a conversation piece so kept them in my collection.

This is where variations, proofs and such get murky ... things like this could very well be from the Topps Vault, however, anyone could replicate them as well with no discernible difference between the two.
