Cliff Lee and Carl Crawford placed on waivers - Insult to Lee?

I dont think anyone will acquire either because of their mega contracts, but it has to be a slap in the face to Lee --who took less money to play in Philly -- that the team is already looking to trade him.

Anyone think some team will make a waiver play?

And most of them do not got claimed since no one wants to pay there contract. If they could have been traded at the deadline they would have. Its just a system for teams to dump players on to someone else, and hopes they will pick them up and pay their contracts as well, even if they someone is going to be a free agent next season.

Not to get in an argument! And if I see one I will speak no more! Even if the % is rigth I will not place one of my aces in waivers. Then again if my memory serves me rigth. This will be the second time the club treat him with such a "coin"

I think we are mostly familiar with the waiver process, the part I was bringing up was that Lee gave Philly a "hometown discount" or sorts and they are already placing him on waivers.

Yes again hence they wanted top move him at the trade deadline but could not, and now they would **** to move his hometown discount and fish in the free market pool.

I find it odd how Philly went about it at the deadline. Every team has down years, it happens. But they seemed open to moving anyone not named Hamels.

I would take this as an insult being a life time fan of an AL Central team.....but I sadly must hang my head in shame, gently sob, and nod.


Just because someone claims him doesn't mean they get him...the Phillies can be like...haha just kidding. It's typical for this time to happen to most players and then nothing come from it.

I don't have a source, it's just common.

Most teams put their players on waivers to see if a team will claim them and then see what they have to "offer" to make a trade b/c the team that puts the player on waivers can pull them back if they don't like what's on the table.

It's very rare when a player with that type of contract is claimed and nothing happens of it....Alex Rios is what I can think of that happened recently. But the Blue Jays didn't even want Rios...they just said "take him"

If someone claims Cliff Lee...the Phillies are going to want a return similar to Zack Greinke to the Brewers....or they will just pull him back.

The reason for Pence and Victorino was to stay under the MLB luxury tax. Now Lee is a different story.
