I thought the charges were dropped sometime last year.
What was the benefit of settling with the family if criminal charges are still pending(please no moral arguments)?lisu said:jpruitt2 said:danimal said:He had a "killer" season! Angel Villalona settled with the family but the criminal charges are still pending.

Settling with the family allows him to avoid a civil trial. There are still criminal charges that he can't or hasn't yet been able to buy his way out of.

Even in the US, you will see drunk drivers get sued by families in civil court. Even if you aren't found guilty in criminal court, you could still be liable for a civil suit. For example, OJ Simpson was found not guilty of murder but his ex-wife's family sued him in civil court and won. The benefit of settling with the family is that sometimes the prosecutors will decide to drop the criminal charges because the family will not support the charges because they already received a settlement.

Yes the charges were dropped, and he made a out of court settlement with the victim's family, BUT no way he is getting a VISA to come back into the country. Don't think he will ever play in the U.S. again.

Can you provide a source that the charges were dropped? From my understanding, he is still going through the lengthy court process and is currently under house arrest still.
I heard he has interest in adding to the total home runs of the Blue JaysJurgy25 said:lisu said:Jurgy25 said:jpruitt2 said:danimal said:He had a "killer" season! Whoops, thought I read that the charges were dropped because of the family settlement of $25,000, but they said it was a payment for their condolences.
