I have a few chrome autos (specifically CJ Edwards and Eddie Butler) that are slightly OC and likely not to grade above a 9. You fellas do this more than I do, so here's my question.

Is it worthwhile to sub them, knowing that I probably won't get a 9.5, but taking the chance and settling for the protection of a slab for $8? By protection I mean they should still sell well with a silver label, but the slab protects me from the bait and switch.

Hope this is clear enough. It's early and I haven't slept much this week because of work. Thoughts and opinions from you more experienced graders?

If you're referring to base autos, I wouldn't bother grading them unless you're sure they'll grade out at 9.5.

Base autos that grade "9" can sell for less than what they would sell at raw.

Agreed. Whenever I'm looking for a base auto from some player I'd rather have a raw than a nine. Nines look weird to me too.
