Thanks guys, this card is gem as well; good to know it's not worth grading. I'm going to throw it on my eCrater store to sit, but if anyone would like to trade for tough '90s Thomas stuff, I'm game.

There are 3 1998 T16B's
1998 Stadium Club Triumvirate Illuminator #T16B Ken Griffey Jr. Refractor front & back
1998 Stadium Club Triumvirate Luminescent #T16B Ken Griffey Jr. Refractor front only
1998 Stadium Club Triumvirate Luminous #T16B Ken Griffey Jr. No refractor finish

This is the best info I could find on them, not sure if it is right or wrong.

Hey guys, I need some help from you. My friend and I were at a show, and he picked up 3 Griffey cards for a total of $50. One was auto'd and had a COA from UD with it with holograms.

This is what the auto'd card looked like. It wasn't the buyback version, it was the original version with a COA (it was lot #466 or something).

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2000-SP-AUTHENT ... 5888978793

It also came with like a parallel card, and a base card. I have no clue what he bought, and my description wasn't the best.

The link you listed is not a buyback card. It is a promo auto from 1995. If the card your friend bought is card #100 it is a promo issued in 1995 by UD to some dealers. There were probably thousands of them signed and they sell on Ebay for $30-40.

Ahh. The vendors tried to convince him it was a good deal by showing him BIN/OBO on eBay. They wanted $60 but he traded them 2 vintage cards for $10 off, when he only paid $5 for the pair. He got 2 other Griffey cards too so it may not have been a terrible deal.

I will get pics of it next time I see him.

I think that seller hurt themselves by listed so many Griffey autos at one time. At first they put them up as a lot with a BIN/BO. I made an offer for the lot that they declined. I was planning on keeping a couple and reselling the rest over a few months. It looks like they made an extra couple hundred by listing them all seperate.

Not really. Last 3 sales on eBay for this card were just over $1k. When is it craziness and when do you concede that the value of the card has increased? I dunno.

I did not realize that the last few sales have been that high. They were around $600 a couple of years ago and then they droped to about $400. I have not been following the completed auctions closely.

This shouldn't have gone this low, but I didn't snipe. I was driving to my nephew's birthday party and was planning on placing a bid from my phone, and I hit a bad spot and didn't get service for about 5 minutes. I was going to bid about $40 higher than it sold for. Who knows if I would have won it, but still...so pissed. Horrible timing. This is one of the few Griffey autos I still really want to pick up.

I picked this Griffey up on ebay for $4. The title was "1997 CERTIFIED KEN GRIFFEY JR. CERTIFIED GOLD SAMPLE" so I figured it was the 1997 Pinnacle Totally Certified Platinum Gold Sample with the "PROMO/30" on the back. Does anyone know anything about these? There haven't been any on ebay since I won it.

The totally certified platinum samples were promo/30, I'm not sure how many of each were printed. They just sent out random packs to dealers along with the order info. I wonder if someone removed the peel, I never seen one before so I'm not sure.
