Just picked up my first Griffey Auto for $44.98 thanks to the live discount. What do you guys think? Was it a good deal?

I think most of us were taken back by the supposed price paid for the 1998 SP prospects auto numbered card to begin with. I've dealt many times privately and on ebay with Jschin and consider him (in Hawaii) to be a class act (don't know if Obama knows about Hawaii, or whether he counts it in his 57 states or not).

I think something was funny about the whole transaction. I know Jschin mostly buys for an international investor and the investor is very tight on what he'll spend. I can't see him bidding that kind of money for the card but if he did I can't see him not paying.

I guess the seller thinks he set a "precident" as he's asking for the absurdly high price again. That's pretty gutsy for an auction "that never happened".

I love the card and the auction will be interesting to watch, for that much money I'd think it will be parked in his store for a few years.

Another topic,

One of you suggested a card (turned out to be image of MP's card) was on a site
NAXCOM and apparently its being reorganized by SPORTS BUY.

I had never heard of the site went there and found a few things. With that card in question not really existing to be sold, I'd like to know if its worth using the site on occasion to search out Griffey cards?

Also, are there other auction or non aucton sites which occasionally have rare Griffey cards? that any of you use? that are trustworty?

I'd really appreciate hearing back from some of you old timers (Collectors of Griffey, not old in age) to let me know.

thanks

I search Naxcom about once a week, not usually much there. Most of the sellers have the cards listed for high amounts, but you can make offers. The buyer protection is better then Ebay. You pay the site and they hold the money until the transaction is complete. One of the drawbacks is no PayPal. I think that I have purchased 2 cards off the site in the past.

A few months ago I noticed that Jschin was buying Griffey autos on Ebay and then relisting them on Naxcom, I thought that was strange.

Not sure what everyone else thinks about the SP Prospects card, but I feel that it should sell for at least $1000. I felt that I was lucky to pick up mine for $600.

Roy, hope you are right about the $1000 value. Maybe I underestimated it. You'd know better than I. Makes me feel better about the one I own and what I paid.

Thanks for the Nexcom comments. I guess I'll look it over once in a while. (when I get some money, after the Big O gets elected, he's taking it all).

I'm going to start selling some stuff, Rose sportsking stuff and another letter set /25 Reds spelling "JUNIOR". Any ideas on what that set ought to sell for?

A lot of collectors will probably disagree with me, but I think that this
img336.jpg

should be worth more than this
img014.jpg
.

The first card is a late 90s insert numbered to 10. The second card is a buyback unnumbered, but UD says there are 15 of them. Have heard the prices for the buyback at over $1000.

Tonight's card from the collection is 2007 UD Goudey Diamond Stars #65 autographed in blue ink and 1/1.

This exact card appeared in a story with the picture (off ebay?) in an issue of Beckett (after I owned it). Pretty cool!
