Bruce,
Beautiful Card but I don't get it, for reasons previously described. Somehow I would have never guessed you'd have been such an early buyer of the card. I'm shocked- got to say.

The 1999 signed Griffey Jr RC is 10 years older (/99) than the new one (/89). Not only is the total number of cards now near 200, but why should the newer one, 10 years newer than the older one, be worth more or even near what the older buyback is worth? What am I missing?

Is it the 20th anniversary inscription that makes it worth so much more?

As all know, I've overpaid for a bunch of stuff and am fairly new to collecting Griffey cards compared to most of you old-timers. But I'm learning from all of you to get more value for my buck and older is better than newer. I'm currently selling off most of my 2008 cards to concentrate on earlier cards and finish the 2007 sets I started.

So that said, how does paying $1700 for the newer buyback get justified. Many of us have agreed that it would be worth much less as more were released.

Bruce, since you have "been around the block" and know what you are doing, and are not mentally ill (at least in my communications with you), you probably have an answer I'm not thinking of. Please share it with me.
Steve B

I didn't realize you were buying my cards for me Steve, with that being said, if you have a question about my buying habits, please email me. I did not pay the $1700 you have assumed I've paid.

I DID NOT PAY THAT EITHER ALSO I LOVE THE ADDED 20 YEARS

My apologies
I was trying to understand what I was missing-
obviously it was the price you paid.

I respect and learn from you, and will in the future.
It was because of that, that I was puzzled.

Hope we are cool

We're fine. I picked it up now because it was available at a price I was willing to pay.

Anyone bidding on this had better do their research. Not saying that the auction fraudulant, but it has all the right signs to be.

I just wanted to share that I pulled my first Griffey auto the other day after many many years of collecting and pack ripping. I was a little shocked that I haven't pulled one before now. Its wierd to think about.

Nice. I have never pulled to Griffey auto. It was one of my goals for 2008. Busted way to many boxes and finally gave up :(

I've decided that I'm going to put together a premium collection of Griffey.

Here are my goals:

1. The 1994 Griffey/Mantle dual autograph
2. Every 1989 RC in a BGS 9.5 grade (I like their case the best)
3. 1 on card autograph each in the Mariners, Reds, & White Sox uniforms.
4. Memorabillia cards: (1 each: patch, shoe, bat, barrel, logo, and so on...)
5. 90's Inserts - Just pretty one's.

I'll stop when I have a 1 row graded card box full.

I haven't decided if I'm going to buy the Griffey/Mantle first or just pick up some cards here and there for a while.

But, I'm sure this thread will be around for a long, long time so hopefully one day I'll scan a full Griffey collection!

What are all the "right signs" to be a fraudulant auction that you see?

Compare the card in the auction to the one that I picked up yesterday. Look a page or two back and see. They look very similar.

Awwww, oh wow. That is your card for sure. Even the 2 on the number 20 inscription is a lil light, exactly like yours and of course you can't make out the number totally, but it sure looks like 54.

At least 2 people have asked him for the serial number with no reply. It is strange that he would not list the number in the auction.

It still doesn't mean of course that the guy didn't jack up the price

U***9 has 20% activity with this seller, I think that's very high. He bid the price up 9 times to get to the present.

P***3 was taken out by this process. Perhaps the repeat bidder was trying to see how high he could go and mistakenly passed P***3 thinking he bid $2000 (he bid $1900).

U***9 esentially took the price from $600 to $1925 and I'll bet 2 dimes to a donut, that he meant to stop at $1975 and get $2000 for the card. Now he owns it, ain't no one else going to over bid him. He made the mistake of outbidding P***3.

Why else does a guy bid 9 times and see the only other high bidder is still on top at $1900? Probably because he's connected to the seller and it looked like an easy $2000. Well it wasn't.

My bet - we'll see this card again after U***9 wins it cause U***9 ain't going to pay for it, ie I don't believe he's a legit bidder.

The bidding is suspect, but it looks like he is selling Bruce's card.

Yesterday when I emailed the seller of the one currently listed, he replied through ebay. I hit reply, not through ebay but trying to see if he didn't hide his email address. Well, he didn't and it is not the same email address as the guy I bought mine from, but thats not to say it's not the same guy.

I suspect he'll never let anyone know what the serial number is on the card he's selling. Also, it looks like a cell phone picture to me.
