When I was a kid I opened up what had to be a couple hundred packs of 1992 Donruss, looking for the Elite Series cards. I wonder what the actual odds are on these. I think they were found one in every couple of cases, so probably something like 1:1440 packs. Very rare.

there was a write up in Beckett ( can I say Beckett here?? )with a cute answer years ago I liked better....
but found this
Although the odds were not fully disclosed it has been estimated that the chances of pulling an Elite insert were approximately 1:55 waxboxes.

I think there were 36 packs per box, so I would have been pretty close with a 1:1440 pack assessment. The 1:55 boxes would make it 1:1980. That seems about right. Those things were so scarce. I remember seeing a Frank Thomas at my local card shop back in 1992. It was in a HUGE screw case (remember those?? haha). When I saw it, I just looked at it for a few minutes in amazement. At the time, there didn't exist a better card (I think the Thomas back in 1992 was even more desirable than the Griffey or Ripken Auto).
