Oh yes, because I'm 22, I remember all about those classic Topps designs of the 60's. Honestly, I don't give a sh*t about vintage anything. Pretty soon all those 60-70 year olds are gonna be dead. These sets a probably a cash cow for manufacturers, but they're not helping the future of the hobby

I have to go on the record and say I take issue with this heartless statement and the prediction of my demise. I turned 60 on 12/28 and now I have to hear I'm almost dead- thanks alot

Any plans for your collect Steve?? ;)

I am leaving my entire Griffey Collection (after my demise predicted by our 22 year old (still in diapers) forum member, to Russ S (in case it gets left out of the will, let this serve as notice)

OK. Clearly, I was wishing death upon people here. That out of the way, I think it's hard to argue that a large chunk of the hobby is not driven by those who are looking for nostalgia, which is fine, but isn't helping the future of the hobby. CK

On a more serious note I have to say this statement is DUMB- Go to a card show sometime and see what drives collectors- and there are KIDS there too (I realize they will die someday too).

Those shiny new boxes and cards, if they are displayed, don't sell, they sit there.

I, myself, never did vintage, for me card collecting started in 1989 (wonder why?), but I've seen the crowds scrambling for the old stuff.

Of course being, a whole 22 years old, worldly and all that, I understand that your perspective is your reality.

Weren't you the guy who was quiting the forum because we showoffs actually post our Griffey Cards on a Griffey Forum- or do I have you confused with another 22 year old? :?:

well, I dont want to get involved in all this, but I will say that when I go to card shows, i walk right past the vintage tables (and right past the prospecting tables as well). I dont care to look at, purchase, want a vintage card because I didnt grow up seeing those players play. Similarly, I dont want a prospect card because I didnt see those players play (yet). I want cards of players i grew up watching (and watch now), and I marvel at the cards of those players that are out of my reach money wise. My kids will likely NOT be interested in looking at Albert Pujols cards because they may not have seen him play....but they will be interested in my generations prospects because that's who they see.

So, I somewhat agree with the OP. Once the generation that is interested in the 2010 idea of "vintage" is no longer (said as nice as I can think of on a message board), then those cards will be a lot less sought after and have much less interest. The same can be said for my collection when im 70 years old....my grandkids will be like Ken Griffey Jr? Isnt he dead??

Ok a few points and I'm done

1. Funny about Babe Ruth and the money his cards get, My buddy in Phoenix, 40 years old, has his only Babe Card on his desk in his office. Being a football card collector, he treasures the "babe" more than all the others. Oh yeah, he never met him or saw him play.

2. Being a pediatrician, in a room one day with a mom and a 6 year old girl, I mentioned I was in a fantasy baseball league. The "kid" immediately jumps in and asks me perhaps 20 intelligent questions about my team and comments on my players and goes on long enough I finally had to excuse myself to get to the next patient. She was exposed only through her dad and his fantasy league involvment. He would be about 30 years old. That 6 year old will remember players way pre Pujols.

3. My favorite card in my "Griffey Collection" is my 2/3 with Ted Williams. I never saw Ted play, and probably never heard his name until I was much older than my teens. But I've come to learn that Ted Williams was perhaps the greatest player to ever play the game and I NEVER SAW HIM PLAY OR HEARD MY DAD EVEN MENTION HIM.

John and whoever, you seem a little narrow minded. You are willing to love baseball for the players you can see on your TV or the internet but you aren't willing to even start to know the players who made baseball the wonderful sport it is that we love. This is typical of the "newest" generation. Don't research, don't seek out information, get it spoon fed or it aint worth knowing. Well if you want to learn about this "sport" you supposedly love, You need "history" and you need to learn how it got to where it is today. It's only with the perspective of HISTORY that you can appreciate Ken Griffey Jr and what his dad did for his development and who influenced his dad. Without HISTORY you are looking at things very superficially and missing out on most of the "heart" of baseball. Of course all of us old folks will die soon and no one will care any longer about Babe Ruth, Lou G, Ty Cobb, Pete Rose etc etc etc. You'll just take the lastest star and forget that there was a game before that. Too bad, you'll miss out on alot of cool stuff by not caring to look further.

TBP, you like those slabbed Griff's, huh? I'm not a big fan of slabs, I have a few though.

i have a sickly slab addiction. Thing is, what i seek is not all that common. Base Topps, love them slabbed for any
500 Clubber.

Chris Olds at Beckett had this to say about the 07 UD Chronicles auto I picked up:

"We haven't tracked any sales, but the card will be added to the database. Upper Deck had no details on the card, either, but we believe it was likely a low-run card made for distribution in retail blaster boxes."

So nothing definte either. Back at square one.

There shouldn't be a perforation. I think someone just did a crappy job cutting from the sheet.
