I was on beckett looking at a Griffey thread someone started and noticed someone had a 1989 buyback pictured as it being one of theirs. I was like, cool I've got that one but then I noticed the numbering and remembered seeing that exact card before being given away by Beckett. I also noticed the inscription, while it said "20 years" it wasn't below the auto but above. Then I recalled that 89/89 which was given away by beckett was inscribed with something different than the other 89, it said "Platinum Anniversary". The auto looks legit to me so I don't know what to say unless there were more than 89 produced :?:
http://blogbeckett.wordpress.com/2009/0 ... feywinner/ Link to the one beckett gave away and a picture of the one someone on beckett has.

that is the card beckett gave out

a beckett email back in may/09
i have another, ill see it i can post what it says
The number (for that guy tracking I presume, right?) is UDC08385. It will be easy to track this one if it gets moved – it’s in a custom BGS slab, noting that it’s the winning card.

ok, got the go ahead on posting this email

That’s the card we gave away for sure (seeing the slab should be obvious – it’s got a custom label)

Well, this one wasn’t signed as shown on the Photoshopped image UD sent us. Griffey signed it “20 years” like all the others, in blue, and signed “20 years” above his name instead of below.

They didn’t even get it back from him until last month (it was missed in the first signing – that’s why it didn’t make pack out for Series 1 and hence the contest).

I wasn’t going to try and explain all that – only to give conspiracy theorists more to try and chew on.

Griffey Collectors....

Looking to move all my Griffey "collection". I was into buying his inserts for a while. Lot looks like this, a couple GU, 30 rookies, 100 or so different inserts, 400 cards in total.

If you are interested, hit me a pm with your email and I will send you scans.

thanks

This card (mine) is up on auction

Thanks to a "forum friend" he pointed out that his exchange was in blue ink and I think mine I kept was also.
But this one on auction is in black ink.

IS THAT WHY WITH 5 DAYS TO GO THE PRICE IS $102, WITH 30 WATCHERS AND 7 BIDS ON WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A PRETTY ORDINARY CARD? IS BLACK INK RARE ON THESE CARDS? SHOULD I END THIS AUCTION AND KEEP THIS CARD TO GO WITH MY BLUE INK VERSION

I would end the auction until I found out more info myself.. I was looking at Griffey auto's and saw that it is black ink..

Also checking Beckett, they have a "2007 UD Masterpieces Stroke of Genius Signatures Windsor Green #KG Ken Griffey Jr." which has a print run of /1.. So I need to keep an eye out for that one as well.. unless one of you guys already has it..

I don't know what the Griffeys' sell for, but the Franks' go for decent $$$. I don't recall exactly how much, but I wanna say around $225ish for a Frank. I'd imagine a Griffey would be more.

Maybe I simply underestimated the value of the card, black or blue ink. I'll probably let the auction go unless somebody else sheds new light
Thanks once again

Steve,
Dont know what kind of help I can be, but I will tell you this. When the cards first hit the market (redemptions that is) they were filled prety quickly. I bought the first one that came up on ebay and i got it a few months later. It is black ink. There was a dry spell with the griffey from this set, and not many were on ebay (many think it's an SP now)....but they were all black ink until now. Now, it seems that UD has a bunch of these blue ink ones that are being sent out as replacements. So for what its worth, it seems that the first redemption run was in black ink (which very few hit ebay, and cost upwards of 300 each), and the second run (the most recent) is in blue, which price is TBD although one sold via BIN for 150. Overall, I think now the card could go 200+, but if it's not an SP, the value could drop as these hit the market..

I saw that, clicked on the auction then closed it. I've got a redemption from 08 still pending but these things are starting to flood the market. That and I'm just not collecting autos right now.

Yea, wondering how this is going to effect the price of these. Used to be a 300+ card when one showed up. Someone still got a good deal though, at least for now!

UD must have finally run out of the 95 SP autos to give as replacements and are using these now.

that authentics is a great looking card! nice pickup
I'm sure some of you saw this on ebay.. yes i was the sucker that bought it. I figured for $20 wasn't much of a risk in picking it up. what's everyone think?
