Something about this whole thread seems to be in defiance of the post that Gilmore made about not stirring up sh*t a few days ago. Who is anybody on this board to criticize another collector for who they collect or who they follow? The OP knows that there are several Griffey collectors on this board, to the tune of 200+ plus pages of posts, and this just seems to be a blatant attempt to stir the pot. Grow up.

He has no heart, that is the problem I have with him! Do you think Ty Cobb or Pete Rose would have slept during a game? No. They worked their butts off to make themselves the players they became. Griffey was lucky enough to be blessed with great genetics. He coasted on that until his body broke down at 30. If he had worked as hard as Cobb, Rose, Bonds, Clemens or McGwire, he would have 800 HRs and be with Bonds in the 500 500 club. He could have been a top 3 player of alltime, instead he has been average to below average for the last 10-12 years of his career. But people still love and stick up for his lazy ass! I do not get it.

ahah, work as hard as Bonds? Are you an idiot? What did he work hard at? sticking needles in his butt? Bonds stopped stealing bases at the age of what 30-32? He stayed healthy partly due to all of the PED's he STUFFED into his body. To hear someone put Barry Bonds and "worth his butt off" in the same sentence is hilarious, ignorant, and just flat out silly. Oh and you are also comparing griffey to two more roid monsters in clemens and mcgwire. YOu might want to re-think you argument.

haha +1

By saying Bonds didn't work hard, you both just proved how f #$%ing stupid you are. Do some research boys.

Do you think Bonds was such a hard worker when he was 35 and on the juice? Were you in the gym with him? Oh yeah, clemens was also....Oh quit swearing he was on the juice tooooooo. Keep backing your boy, and see how far it gets you.

Do you honestly think because Clemens and Bonds were on roids, they didn't work hard?!?! You really need to do some research my friend. Bonds and Clemens were 2 of the hardest working ball players of alltime. That is why they were great. The reason they took steriods and tainted their careers is there was no penalty for doing it, and they were willing to do ANYTHING to better themselves. If they thought there was even a 1% chance that people would want to strip them of their records, even though there was no penalty for doing what they did, they would have never used. People are just uneducated on what roids are. If you don't think Clemens and Bonds were 2 of the best players with or without roids, then you are just not a smart person.

while bonds did have a monster of a workout... roids or hgh is still short cutting and bypassing the time and effort to naturally gain an advantage. you dont have to be such a dick when trying to make a point.

I have to agree with this. sometimes you have some good ideas, but the "me vs. world" way you come across is going to make people pissed off a lot.[/quote:17d2tsle]

I agree with this.

Heck, half my posts on the old BMB was spent defending Bonds against a (very) hostile message board. But, being inflammatory and using shaky logic won't earn you any points.

I don't think Griffey is necessarily lazy, just stupid.

Old Fart needs to take his naps in the afternoon, not during the game.

Combined with diminished skills, gramps needs to retire and let someone else have the opportunity. The Mariners are getting ripped off paying that much for a "coach'.

For the sake of the Mariners, it was probably better Griffey was asleep  He should've retired a few years ago.

Also, it's pretty unfair to knock Griffey for not working as hard as Bonds. It's well known that very few players had offseason workout routines as stringent as Bonds'. Bonds outworked 99% of the players out there.

You got a good point there. He worked out so hard his HEAD GREW. Not too many baseball players can boast about an accomplishment like that.

So you are disappointed that Griffey didn't realize his full potential? Isn't that his call? Who said Griffey ever had aspirations to be the greatest player of all-time?

Are you one of the top 4 or 5 people in your profession in the entire world? If so, why not and should we consider you lazy or a failure? People make decisions to balance work and family life every day.

I know my decision to have a balance will keep me from reaching my full potential but I life a very comfortable life, have an incredible house and money to buy what I want within reason....not to mention a great family.

Could I earn another $100k or $200k per year....sure but that is not my desire if it comes at the expense of my family.

I wish the M's handle Jr's retirement with a little bit of class. Is getting to a point that JR have to force to retire if he doesn't start to perform on the field.

In the 90's nobody put more butts in seats and captivated non-fans like he did. Moms and grandmas loved him. Thats what I will remember about "The Kid".

Unlike most people here, I don't claim to know what type of person Griffey Jr is or isn't. I can't say I know him personally like it seems many here do. I certainly don't know if he took steroids or not. His multiple injuries makes one become doubtful as to his true integrity. As for him sleeping....I don't see how that makes him lazy. We all have days where we just find it difficult to keep our eyes open and need a few minutes of shut-eye.

However, I know he has such a strong and large fan base that any controversy surrounding him would be quickly dismissed as inaccurate and impossible.

Apparently this situation didn't even go down like this thread states. But I'm sure the haters will just say they are covering up for him. ::facepalm::
And I'm sure the blind fans will say it never happened.

Yea, I posted that link a few scrolls above. It just proves that there are always 2 sides to every story, so you can't jump to conclusions. I honestly don't knnnow what's going on with Junior's bat. He just seems to be so out of sink, and sometimes it looks like it's heavy and slow. Maybe he shoud drop a couple of ounces, I don't know. I know I certainly hope he gets it going soon and shuts up the nay-sayers.

Didn't McGwire and Sosa have huge followings?
