According to ESPN's Rumor Central, there are talks between Boston and Florida to work out a deal

Report: Sox tried to get Hanley Ramirez back
According to a report in SI.com, the Red Sox made an attempt to re-acquire Marlins star Hanley Ramirez, "but while the Marlins listened to Boston's overtures, Florida isn't anxious to trade its best player, and talks apparently have been aborted after no agreement could be reached." The Marlins were said to be most interested in a center fielder, and discussions apparently focused on outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury, pitcher Clay Buchholz and others in a package for Ramirez, according to the story bylined by Tom Verducci and Jon Heyman. According to their report, it was originally believed that these recent discussions came after Boston lost out in the running for Mark Teixeira, who signed an eight-year, $180 million deal with the Yankees last week, but in fact, they were held a few weeks prior to that. In November 2005, Ramirez was dealt by the Red Sox to the Marlins along with three minor leaguers in exchange for Josh Beckett, Mike Lowell, and Guillermo Mota. Ramirez, 25, batted .301 with 33 home runs, 67 RBIs, 125 runs scored, and 35 stolen bases last season.

According to Jon Heyman and Tom Verducci of SI.com, "the Red Sox made a play to re-acquire Marlins superstar Hanley Ramirez after losing out to the rival Yankees for star free agent Mark Teixeira." The Marlins listened, but no agreement was reached and talks have ended. The Marlins coveted players such as Jacoby Ellsbury and Clay Buchholz, but they'd need to be bowled over to trade their young shortstop.

Ramirez, 25, is signed at a discount through the 2014 season. Juan C. Rodriguez says trading him would make no sense for the Marlins.

The way you say that you make it sound like it ended because Boston wasn't willing to give that up. That is a absolute no brainer from the Sox perspective.

I would want even more than that if I was the marlins. You are getting one of the best players in the league, they don't come around too often.

The Marlins have absolutely no reason to deal him. If I were them, I wouldn't even listen without Lester, Lars and Buchholz in the mix.

Bottom line, keep the guy you can build the franchise around. He is a superstar.

Marlins would never ever do this trade, especially at the contract he has until 2014.....not too mention that it would more than likely deplete the Red Sox of all the prospects they have playing up like Ellsbury, Buccholz, Lowrie, etc....

I'm sure they wanted at least three of
Masterson, Ellsbury, Buchholz, Bowden, Anderson, Lester, Lowrie

Which Theo would never do.

Plus they probably ended because Hanley is cheap til 2014. No sense in moving him.

Hanley = top 5 player in baseball

Buchholz - overrated, overhyped, marginal prospect
Ellsbury - Just not that good

The red sox would need to be adding probably another 2 top flight prospects to make this deal happen.

The only thing I see that could make this somewhat make sense from the Marlins is that they probably aren't going to win with the team they have right now. If they are able to load up on say 2 top prospects and one major league proven guy still under rookie contract, they could potentially create a team like the Rays. Everyone would be coming up around the same time, and the team could come out of no where.

If i was dealing for a player of Hanleys caliber i would want players who i know could produce. Lester, Ellsbury, and Bay would be tempting.

I completely agree. I guess I phrased what I wrote wrong. I definitely did not mean the Marlins offered Hanley for those two and we turned it down. Like I said in my other post they'd want a ton of players. And definitely at least Lester.

And I doubt we would trade Bay and Ellsbury, then we'd need two more outfielders.

I would think that one over. I would do it in a heartbeat

He is only 24 years of age, a career .308 hitter, and ranked in or close to the top 10 in all major stats for the NL including HRs, SB's, runs, walks, OBP and slugging. Most teams would give up whatever it takes to acquire a player of this caliber.
