Nice price thus far! Good to see most of our estimates, except for thoes who were lo-balling it, are coming to fruition. And, as already mentioned, do yourself a favor and let it ride! Even if you do not see another bid till the end, expect a flurrey of action with last second bidding and snipes! Congrats again on the find, and potential sale!

is that the big W as high bidder?

Yeah, it stinks when a card you want just goes beyond your reach. Also, I do not think I see Jaypers bidding on this...?

edit: Yet.

Why in the world would anyone want to bid now?

If you want to win the card, you will wait till the last second to snipe.......

Gotta agree, but alas not everyone uses a snipe(believe it or not), and some still enjoy bidding in an auction. To each their own....

I say the card hits closer to 1500, but that's just my guess.

In other words, way more than it should go for........this is about as much hype as any prospect card has received, ever, and it may close for close to the most expensive base chrome non auto ever.......ie, not the best card to "prospect"...

how is a 1/1 auctioned in an open market, sold/valued 'more than it should'?

How is that possible?

It's called marketing and development

A unique rock should only sell for so much, but when you put it in a box with fancy packaging and promote it to the kiddies- people go crazy, even though it's still just a unique rock....

Hype is pushing this card, and the reason for my guess is because if it is almost 1k now with plenty of time left, that still leaves time for casual observers who might not be on message boards to bid, also gives time for people to do some last day bids, then the snipes to set in.

However, this is the first time it has ever surfaced on eBay I believe, which is also a main contributor, and many people have sought after it for a long time..

In general, superfractors aren’t the best cards to prospect b/c the buy in cost is usually so high, that the %/$ ROI (not to mention risk) isn’t worth it imo. I’d rather put my $ in less blingy cards like refs, xs, blue refs, gold refs, + oranges. Even if a guy does tremendously well, how many 1k+ superfractors (or even an 06 BC alex Gordon gold ref auto that sold for 1.4k) ever hit anywhere near that level again, much less surpass it? Different strokes for different folks.

Try not to get lost in opinionated, subsitute logic.

There really is no hype surrounding this card save for a handful of individuals that really want the card for their own individual reasons. It will inevidably sell for exactly what it will, and thus equate to nothing more than what it should, will, and did. Meaning, there is no market hype for this card per see, and it's value is being determined as we speak.

Also, there are KNOWN bidders going after this card, of whom the general public knows very well that these certain individuals have been waiting for this card to surface for a very long time. And when two or more of them have VERY deep pockets, and one of them HAS to win it, your bidding limit all of a sudden increase higher than it would have not knowing all the other variables involved.

If the Longo super-reflector ever surfaced for a legit run auction, I can personally promise you that Ms. Jackson thinks the results will be very nasty.......

If this happens, it will be one of the most overpriced superfractors in Chrome history. Think for a minute here, that's just a couple pizzas shy of the Jason Heyward super.

Count me in the group that thought $500 was too much. Hopefully those bidding are simply collectors and not flippers, because I don't see how this card has room to grow.

I don't intend to piss in the sellers cherios or anyone elses, just felt inclined to give my $.02.

It's interesting to see Wossa bid sooooooo early in the auction! He usually snipes at the end. It could be a strategy-move from him to kinda tell people "I'm interested, stay away...I WILL NOT be outbid"...?

Hmm....

I think you are underestimating the power of fcb. I would argue that a majority of high-end prospectors at least browse these boards periodically, or have friends who browse these boards. That "hype" in itself has been known to increase the closing price of auctions in the past.

I mean, how many times have people slapped their faces cause what was initially a "secret" or low-profile auction proliferated to a very high priced auction just because someone mentioned that card on these boards.

Honestly, I don't search "superfractor" on ebay daily or weekly. I don't search "chrome Hellickson" either, ever. But now that I know that the card is currently on ebay SOLELY due to the fact that I browse these boards, I might, say, decide to put in a $2000 snipe at the end of the auction, for example.

Otherwise, I wouldn't even be thinking about this card, or I would have heard about this card long after the auction was over, and say, "hey, I would've paid that price for this card......."

Hmm....

Or maybe he saw it posted on this board and wanted to have some fun and make the seller think he was interested... just to cause a frenzy.
