Boy things are getting a little crazy on this one. I did turn down the fairly crazy offer I had received. This auction is going to run until the end no matter what!! lol

If you received an offer of $1,500.00 and you're going to let it run and pay ebay fees, I think you should reconsider.

I agree

Take the $1000 profit and run.

While I acknowledge that it'd be awfully hard to turn down a $1K profit, the OP has stated several times that he's going to let the auction run its course, which based solely on the issue of integrity I find admirable. Whether he ends up over or under that 'crazy' offer is immaterial - standing behind one's word is paramount.

AND, people who know for a fact that the auction is going to run, will likely get more committed to the auction and place stronger bids. I can't tell you how many times I have held off on bidding on particular auctions because I thought they would be pulled at some point.

A big offer just means that person is afraid of someone else bidding the same or higher. The snipes will battle this one out and you will get paid.

Integrity/honoring your word > $/selling early. This card will earn the OP a nice profit, so let it ride

like I predicted -- some jerk "bid the wrong amount" and retracted

He bid 888.88

How can he justify bidding the wrong amount?

ebay needs to somehow punish/ban those that abuse or play games

like Mox mentioned in another thread, they should force bidder to submit a new bid
they should also freeze account if this happens too much

35 seconds after he retracted his $888 bid and it looks like he rebid $850. So if that is the same bidder, he did submit a new bid.

So he had to retract just because he entered wrong amount by 38?
I hate the retract option

most likely doesn't use ebay at all or very little if he has yet to put it up himself just to see offers and determine a value.

Im guessing the seller pulled it from a box in 06 and is into it for the cost of the box.

He made $425 on the card, and is probably way more than happy

Yea I actually said to the seller that he might be able to get more than the $500 online. But he told me he doesn't sell on ebay at all. I should have asked him how he got it. He actually gave me his contact info and said he had a ton of prospect stuff. I intend to contact him to see what else he may have.

Yeah I agree with the guys on page 8 of this thread...this card isn't even worth the $500 he paid for it and the market for this card is way overblown. Oh wait....what??? LOL

Congrats on the find and glad its doing well for you. You are doing the right thing by letting it run.

Make no mistake about it - something is "worth" whatever someone is willing to pay for it. If someone is willing to shell out 2k for the Hellickson super, it's worth 2k. It's no stretch when you consider there are cards that sell for 6 and even 7 figures. This card pales in comparison. The level of demand dictates the "worth" of virtually any collectible, plain & simple.

case in poinT:

Who is Al Smith? someone with a high level of demand

It was a joke...it was quite obvious that the guys who thought this card wasn't worth squat were way off base, even before the card hit the bay. I mean, i sold a just Minors auto of this guy for $40.

I'd agree, but only to a point. 1/1s are worth whatever someone is willing (and perhaps more importantly able) to pay for it at a *particular time*, the 'value' of the card could change dramatically (go up OR down) six months from now for no apparent reason. Someone could say it is meaningless to say this and that this happens with every other type of card - but 1/1s have unique properties. I've seen tons of 1/1s listed and relisted on ebay whose pricing is inconsistent, I'm sure everyone else has as well.

The value of the other parallels could provide some guidance as to what the 1/1 could be worth in as much that the 1/1 probably shouldn't be worth less than any other parallel.

I'd have to disagree, with all due respect of course. The 1/1 is an entity all by itself, the whole kitten-kaboodle. All of it. It's worth what the highest bidder is willing to pay for it, and is independent of any other card values. The last *sold* price is the one & only gauge of its value, in black & white.
