Is anybody as surprised as me that Joffrey Lupul is not slowing down at all and now we are well into January!! 4th overall in scoring but only 2 points away from 1st in scoring. On pace for 40 goals and 95 points!! He was top prospect coming into the NHL with Anaheim back in 03/04 after they had drafted him 7th overall. After several seasons with the Ducks, he wasn't developing as they had planned, so they shipped him off to Edmonton in the Chris Pronger deal. Damn, thats too bad that he didn't break out like this when he was with the Oilers. That would be so nasty having "todays" Lupul playing with RNH, Hall and Eberle :P

Oh and i was curious if anyone has been keeping an eye on Lupul RC's this year? He has a couple high end ones and im pretty curious if these RCs have exploded, since Lupul is doing so well in the large Toronto Hockey market.

Anyone been keeping an eye on any???

Marchand suspended 5 games. Love it. Well deserved. The Bruins are the bullies of the NHL hands down.

Any guesses as to how many games the above very similar hits got? Zero.

1. Alain Vigneault needs to look in the mirror at his own players
2. The NHL needs some consistency, regardless of injury sustained or not.
3. Sami Salo needs to not turn his back on a guy who is 6" shorter than him when going in for a check, which frankly is probably what caused him to fall on his head and shoulder.

And for the record, anyone who wants to say those above Vancouver hits are "hip checks", no, this is a proper hip check:

Shanahan called Marchand's play predatory. Prior to the hit Marchand punched Salo in the back of the head twice (unprovoked) and then didn't try to play the puck. Instead he crouched down and basically used his shoulder to hit Salo low. It doesn't help that Salo is 10' taller that Brad. Saying that he was protecting himself is BS. Marchand had time to write a book before "Mr.Glass" came in at 2mph to check him. Salo really expected to have some contact and was surprised that he wasn't there. There was intent to injure. Marchand is a repeat offender, a big reason for the suspension.

Raymond- really didn't look like a hip check.
Hamhuis, Ballard and Boychuk were. All were either playing the puck or checking the forward with the puck. I don't know about those plays but Hamhuis and Ballard did get penalties in the playoffs for textbook hip checks. I have no idea why refs call it on some plays an not on others.
NONE of these plays warrant any suspension, at most a 2min minor.

Exactly. Marchand and Salo were going at it for a while right before that play so thats why Marchand did what he did. He's already known as a ****** and there was no need for that play at all.

I hope there is a rematch for the Cup. I can't wait to see someone attempt to drop gloves with the Sedin's and watch them turtle like the cowards they are. I can't wait to see their "star" goalie crumble under the pressure again.

A couple excerpts from Marchand's diary for ESPN:

Their coach [Alain Vigneault] came out and said I play to hurt players. He obviously wanted to take a shot at me and stir the pot for the hearing [Monday]. It just shows the class he has or lack thereof. I really am not going to respond or bite into what he’s trying to feed me there.

I’m not out there to hurt guys. When I’m out there, I play a hard-nosed game and play hard. If guys are soft and don’t like it, then that’s fine. I’m not out there to please anybody. I’m out there to do my job.

Looch [Milan Lucic] also got a misconduct when a half-dozen guys jumped on Thorty, which later got rescinded. We got a couple of bad calls there but that’s part of the game. We have a lot of tough guys on the ice there. They were pretty tough when it was six-on-one, but once they were all pulled off only one guy answered the bell. Just shows what kind of guys they are.

http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/bruins/p ... lt-critics

He only spends about a quarter of the article on the hit. He talks about the game, and stuff that's gone on in the season. He does come off as a down to earth guy who gives credit to his teammates for his success.

Patrick Sharp out 3-4 weeks with a broken wrist.

This sucks. Hawks are definitely going to need guys to step up. They let the rest of the Western Conference catch up, and are slipping in the standings.

the Penguins left 5-1 to the Senators and have now lost 5 games in a row.

they play the Capitals in Washington tomorrow night. despite being a match up between the 8th and 10th place teams it should still be a great game.

Hell, i can't wait for the rest of the season....where it's all gravy when the Bruins win, but when they lose it's the other teams fault for being a ***** or not starting a scrum to my liking.

In all seriousness, I understand I'm biased for the Bruins just like the Vancouver fans are biased. I love Marchand and hate Burrows... go figure. Overall, it's all in good fun to get the give and take between the fans and throw the verbal jabs. So here's a question for the Vancouver fans. Is Tony Gallagher a real journalist or just a nobody homer? He was on a local sports show last night as a guest to explain how Vancouver and it's fans are reacting to the win. He started talking about how it was "low" of Thornton to want to fight Weise in the same period that Weise was already in a fight, but didn't know that Shawn appears on this show after Bruin home games. Shawn joins in and makes this guy look like a complete clown.

http://www.csnne.com/blog/bruins-talk/p ... eedID=3352

Maybe it's my bias that makes this "journalist" look like a clown. Maybe it's that he isn't a real journalist. I really don't know.

And just to be fair, the guy that runs the show (Mike Felger) also said Marchand deserves the whole 5 game suspension during the show and says that fans that say he shouldn't have been suspended at all should stop being homers.

Gallagher was an ****** last time I checked. Pretty opinionated, rubs a lot of fans the wrong way. He gets points for not backing down from the host and Thorton. I thought it was funny that the 6 vs 1 melee turned into 7 vs 1. I'm sure that if Burrows punched a Bruin in front of the Bruins bench the same thing would have happened.
I don't mind joking around with fans from other teams. I have a lot of friends that are Leafs fans and I do make a point of poking fun at them whenever possible. I even hear a lot from non-Canucks fans back in vancouver. No problem with me.
I do hope that the next game is televised. Definitely entertaining.

Canuck fans have an incredible sense of entitlement after winning absolutely nothing.
They tried to burn the city down but didn't succeeded...too bad. The site of Canada's greatest hockey achievement too.
