These 2 teams play again tomorrow.
Does anyone know if Joyce is behind the plate? Don't the umps normally rotate in a series?
Yes. They rotate clockwise. They need to boo for minutes when the umpires are announced.

I wouldn't be shocked if:

1. They skip his spot behind the plate
or
2. Bring a different ump for that game.

Thanks Blue for ruining Ken Griffey Jr.'s retirement with your blown call. This controversy is probably even causing more buzz than a perfect game would have.

That was a terrible play by Miguel Cabrerra. They should at least go back and make that an error so it would be a no hitter.

but it wasnt an error.....it was an out, it wasnt a terrible play by cabrerra considering he got him out

Even if the runner WAS safe, it still wasn't an error. The ball was fielding cleanly, the ball was thrown cleanly. The ONLY thing that could be considered an "error" is if Jim Joyce honestly thought Galarraga bobbled the ball.

You guys are missing the point. Obviously it wasn't a technical error. Why not have the home scorer go back and make the change, since after all it was a terrible play by Cabrerra even though he should have been out. They are not going to change that call (I hope I'm wrong though) but they can change the error. So why not do that so it's at least a no-hitter and he has some official accomplishment as a result.
And after watching the full reply, that was a great play by Miggy. Went about 15 feet to his right, got the ball out of his glove quickly, got his balance, and threw a very catchable ball.

Some of you guys are going a bit overboard...chill....The human aspect to the game is what makes it great.

I agree fully with the first part of your statement, but disagree wholeheartedly with the second part of your statement.

The game does have a 'human aspect'. The players are human. The managers are human. The fans are human. There's real human emotion in every corner of the game. That's enough of a 'human aspect' for me.

The one place I DON'T need to see a 'human aspect' is in the umpiring. I don't want to see umpires making mistakes, letting their egos get in the way, or playing favorites. If I'm watching a fantastic game, it doesn't become better because some umpire makes a 'human' error.

What makes baseball great is the chess match of strategy and the displays of athletic talent. Arbitrary umpiring only serves to detract from those things.

Re: Gallaraga perfect through 8?

I just saw the MLBHD highlights and he totally got robbed. He definitely had the man out at first.

I am SOOOOOOOOO ******* pissed at Jim Joyce. How in the **** could he miss that call on the LAST OUT of the game!!???He should never ******* umpire a MLB game again. He just ****** that kid out of history on the baseball diamond.Jim Leyland or Miguel Cabrera or SOMEONE should have beat the **** out of this guy on the field after the game.Tim Kurkjian just said on ESPN that he doesn't think that MLB will even fine him for it. That is a bunch of ********. He was CLEARLY out by a LONG DISTANCE!I just don't know what else to say. That is the worst call at 1st base since the Don Denkinger fuckjob.I hope this ****** gets what's coming to him. He deserves some serious horrible karma headed in his direction.**** him.

Armando just said on MLB that Joyce apologized to him after the game and seemed to have tears in his eyes.

EDIT: And Joyce actually gave him a hug.

Ugh, once again, way to take things to the next level...just absolute class all around.

It's a damn baseball game people. Bad call, yes. Sucks for Galarraga, yes. But to wish harm on someone?? I'm sure this really had a big impact on YOUR personal life too...so I do indeed feel terrible for you as well. In fact, I will think more of you tonight rather than Galarraga...because I'm sure this was SUCH a huge impact on you. I'm so sorry for you that it's impacted you so much, that you wish harm on Jim Joyce.

Oh wait, this must just be sarcasm too...maybe you and Josh Hamilton should go hang out and sarcastically wish harm on people, and maybe go and sarcastically yell "bomb" on an airplane, and see how that goes over.

Galarraga is on the phone with ESPN during the Cards/Reds game.

This guys is taking it really well
He doesn't sound upset, he isnt blaming Joyce or anything.
This makes it worse. A person with that kind of attitude deserves it.
He just keeps saying thank you.

Who gives a ****? Its like people that are getting a lethal injection and they want to apologize for their crime. The moment is gone, the event is over and your choice screwed you.

"I just cost that kid a perfect game," Joyce said. "I thought he beat the throw. I was convinced he beat the throw, until I saw the replay."

"It was the biggest call of my career," said Joyce

"I don't blame them a bit or anything that was said," Joyce said. "I would've said it myself if I had been Galarraga. I would've been the first person in my face, and he never said a word to me."

Are you going to start an argument with Sam as well? We get it, people are going overboard. We also get that you think people here lack class. Repeating it each time someone says something doesnt increase how people view your stance on the matter.

People are angry and once again, officials are taking control of games and not allowing players to dictate how things play out. Its a message board though. People are going to post opinions. If you dont like it, too bad. People's minds arent being changed based on who likes their point of view.

You're an idiot. The guy made a mistake in a baseball game. You are comparing him apologizing to a murderer. Unreal.

You'd have tears in your eyes too if there were over 25,000 people in a 1/4 mile radius waiting for you to go to your car!
In DETROIT!
They riot for fun over there!
I want to see the police escort motorcade.
