It was definitely a Ginter and vintage oddball kind of mail day. It was also a "I've had packages floating around for over a week sitting on In Transit, Arriving late" kind of mail day so bigger than my usual mail days.

1952 Topps Look N Feel Billy The Kid - He's family so this one had to be added to my collection.
1952 Topps Look N See Billy The Kid.jpg

1887 N28 Allen and Ginter Maurice Vignaux and Yank Adams - These guys were rock stars as billiard players in the 1870s and 1880s. Yank Adams was the premier digital (hand) player of his day in an era when you weren't required to use a cue to play cushion billiards. Maurice Vignaux held multiple US and international billiards championships during his career and was the premier cue player of the same era.

Yank Adams and another billiard player named William Sexton (he's also in this set and will be my next add if I can track one down) put on the largest sporting event in the US to that point in 1878 with an estimated attendance of 20,000 people for a three day tournament in New York City. It was hosted at Gilmore's Gardens, the predecessor to Madison Square Gardens.

2011 Flora of the World Plantable Cards - These are the coolest things. They're printed on compostable paper and you can see the seeds embedded in the paper on the back.
Full Set.jpg Full Set Back.jpg

15 assorted Mini Sets from various Ginter years - I'm really focusing this year on knocking out my Ginter checklists.

Hey a few baseball cards actually showed up too

Yesterday's mail:

011821-1.jpg
2020 Finest Flashbacks Gold Refractor Khris Davis 25/50...I completed the regular Refractor team set and am not really going after the Golds but this one was a great deal. 2003 Donruss Classics Timeless Tributes Zito 025/100 puts me 3 away from that team set and 1999 Paramount Holo-Silver Grieve 24/99 puts me 4 away for that one. Amusingly the card I'm most excited for is the 2004 Topps Fall Classic Covers 1973 World Series Program card...it was the last one I needed to get all of the cards from the A's WS appearances and I've been hunting it for years.

011821-2.jpg
OG Topps Gold Label...the 2000 Grieve Class 3 Gold 013/100 leaves me only two Adam Piatt cards away from completing the full Class 1/2/3 team set for the A's, which is 15 cards. The Grieve and Giambi Class 3 Black Labels from 1998 put me a Class 2 Grieve from completing that team set.

011821-3.jpg
Recent Topps Blacks. I'm only 2 cards away for 2018 and 7 away for 2019 but it's going to be a while for 2017, I don't have the Matt Chapman or Matt Olson RCs.

Just a couple of small ones in yesterday:

011922.jpg
I'm trying to pick up some of the '80s retro autos from Topps flagship over the last 5 years that I have missed, and this Nunez is one of them. The 2003 Bowman's Best Blue Zito 058/100 leaves me one common auto from finishing up the Blue team set...which is only 4 cards but hey still a "team set."

One Hall of Fame Auto and One Hall of Fame RC today

2005 Donruss Signature Series Milestone Marks Tier 3 - These are kind of sneaky actually. They aren't numbered but have a print run of 250 each. It's only a five card set (the Tier 3 part anyway) so I'm going to make a run at it. Amazingly all four I'd need are listed on eBay right now.

1987 Fleer Greg Maddux - Yeah I know it's a junk era RC but I can't pass up a decently centered copy of a Hall of Fame RC for a couple bucks.

Not a card but certainly baseball related

These two 2003 Topps Chrome X-Fractors complete the Traded team set for me but I still need 5 from Series 1 & 2. The 2006 UD Special F/X Green/99 Duchscherer leaves me a single card away from completing that large team set...Frank Thomas.

012022-2.jpg
Still need a lot of 2017 Bowman Chrome Gold Refractors but this Holmes gets me a little closer. For some reason I didn't have any of the three Rickeys in the 2003 UD MVP Celebration set, now I'm 33% of the way there. And the Nick Hundley gets my 2019 Topps Black needs down to 6.

It was January 2022 and I thought I was going to make it out of the 2021 football card season pretty much unscathed when it came to new Trent Dilfer cards...then Panini Mosaic came along and said "hold my beer." Thirty-four freaking parallels. This unnumbered red card is my first pickup from the set, and I have a couple more incoming...they're showing up pretty slowly. At least they are thin cards so PWE shipping won't be dangerous. The Mulder patch card is 17/17.

012222-2.jpg
Also a couple of cheap Ben Grieve cards I didn't have and a 2010 Finest RC logo patch card, 11/50.

Snagged a Verlander for the potential HOF category. I try not to wait too long, but he has been harder to find at a price I was willing to pay. I do like these multi=player cards, especially when you can snag a few decent guys on one card. Weaver was an All-Star, but BOOF was a bust!

Nice mail day today

I had to have this one.
2022 Topps Now Buck O'Neil HOF.jpg

A few Bagwell refractors I was missing - Guess I'm giving up the idea I'm not collecting him again.

Crazily enough this one is actually better centered than my other copy

I thought I had bought the unsigned Atomic Refractor in a PSA10 and when it got here it was the Auto. I checked the auction again and it was supposed to be the Auto. I really thought they'd shipped me the wrong card.

Love finishing a Rainbow

2018 Bowman Chrome Red Shimmer Refractor Autograph 3/5

Took a little bit of digital wizardry to free the cards that are slabbed from their prisons but here's the complete rainbow.

It isn't a card but I still thought it was cool. I just wish he'd made his MLB Debut in a home game.

Grades popped today. Curious as to why they left the Brien Taylor card blank; I did reach out to them and will hopefully get a response from them.

I've heard that CSG is a lot tougher and I can definitely agree with that.

Overall, happy about the grades, especially on the Judge and Alonso.

In regards to the Brien Taylor, since I didn’t send in the COA (I probably threw it away), they weren’t able to verify the authenticity. Considering the history of the card and all that, one would think they could just grade it anyway without the COA.

Lesson learned! I mainly wanted it in a slab for protection but a one touch will do.

Really excited about this pickup. Buck never amounted to much and flamed out after a few years, but he does hold the distinction of making the first-ever start in Fenway Park history, 4/20/12. He got shelled but they got the win against NY in extras. This is his only card. Pretty cool piece of Red Sox history

A couple more from this miserable set, three down and only 32 to go! The Blue is 56/99.

012622-2.jpg
2004 Reflections GU "base card" of Tim Hudson, 019/100. That completes all non-auto A's base cards from that set, there are 3 autos/35 and I don't think I have any of them. The Hudson 2002 Topps Reserve Parallel 129/150 puts me 3 away from that team set. And I was finally able to track down a 2005 Bowman White Eric Chavez, 039/240. Some of the cards from that set are super hard to find for some reason. I still need one common for the team set.

012622-3.jpg
2012 Topps Chrome Yoenis Cespedes Sepia Refractor RC 48/75. Another card that was super hard to find for some reason...I got his auto and non-auto Red/25 and Gold/50 cards before finding this one so many years later. The Fingers manufactured patch is out of 2011 Topps, trying to finish up those. And I've barely made a dent in my 2020 Topps Black needs.

Today was a custom cut auto mail day. My N*gro League autograph collection continues to grow, including a couple of newly inducted Hall of Famers in Minoso and Buck. It isn't my first auto for either of them but it is my first with Buck's first name included.
