YANKEES TAKING A HUGE RISK SIGNING MICHAEL PINEDA. GUY IS NOT YOUNG, HE LOOKS LIKE HE'S 27 YEARS OLD!! AND I WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED IF HE IS. PINEDA WAS BORN IN SAN CRISTOBAL, DR. I HAVE VISITED THAT PART OF THE DOMINICAN TWICE AND WAS SHOCKED TO HEAR YOUNG BALL PLAYERS W/ FAKE/ ALTERED BIRTH CERTIFICATES
Jajajaja. One of my boys from San Pedro played in the minors. He is 38, his birth certificate says he is 32.

I hate this trade. Montero is going to be a monster and Noesi is a guaranteed starter. Campos will most likely be a one hit wonder prospect even though I have a little faith in him and Pineda is okay. The Yankees could have traded two lower level prospects for Pineda straight up.

Are you clueless? Pineda is an absolute MONSTER. You will be eating your words. I am willing to bet tha you have never even watched Pineda pitch, have you? You will soon be singing this kids praises because he will be a top 5 starter in the AL within a couple years.

top 5? I doubt that....but then again, you are trying to push your cards you have listed. Makes it sound good.
Why do you care so much what he thinks?...he doesnt like the deal..so be it.

Sorry, but that is not the case. I BOUGHT HIS CARDS because this is my opinion. I felt his talent was much greater than the price tag on his cards. I have told many people this BEFORE the trade. So no, I am not just trying to push my cards. And yes, I can see him being in the top 5 best pitchers in the AL in 2 years. Kershaw did it in his 3rd year, so have others.

I agree. I think Pineda could be great in NY. I would have MUCH RATHERED him stay in Seattle though. The NY setting is a different kind of animal when it comes to pitchers.

I love how many people in this thread are upset and talking trash about Montero or Pineda. Depending on who they have stashes of or what team they're a fan of. Gotta love big trades. Brings out the best in people.

I was totally thinking the same thing. Pineda and Montero are both amazing talents and everyone in this thread hates one and loves the other. It's comical.

Not everyone ;) I would agree most though :) Both have significant talent for their futures...its all about what they can both do with the team that they play for and the mentorships they will have/utilize through it all :) Fun all around!!!

What I don't understand is why Yankees fans are getting mad Montero got traded. Could Montero be excellent, sure, but at the same time remember all the people who got gaga on Travis Snider and his .300 plus average in September of 2009 and were touting him as the next big thing. Well, look what happened, he regressed and now some are looking at him as a bust even though he will only be 24 this year. Starting pitchers with the upside of Pineda are hard to find and he had a rookie season that was similar to Clayton Kershaw's first year though Kershaw was 20, Kershaw was the best pitching prospect on the planet then. Pineda could be a RH C.C. if he refines his changeup. All Montero was is a 61 AB sample with 17 K's in those AB's, his BABIP in that short time was over .400, if Seattle thinks they are getting another Miguel Cabera/Albert Pujols they are foolish. Those two are the best two hitters of this generation and first ballot hall of famers, Montero is closer to Billy Butler than those two and Butler is a good but not great player.

I agree. How quickly people forget that Dioner Navarro was going to be a monster for the Yankees too.

Sigh. Montero has so much more ability than Snider or Navarro have.

Yeah, because you have visited there obviously you know the real deal. Teams should keep you on retainer because of your experience.

I had a retainer in elementary school

Is Montero "can't miss"? At least MP is already enjoying big league success against big league hitters.

I feel like the its the time to sell now on both of them.

Undoubtedly, the prices are going to go down on both but while this artificial hype is out there right now.

Strike while the iron is HOT!

If you are a true believer in potential of either of them, wait a few months and buy back at 1/2 the price you sold at and do some dollar-cost averaging on your investment.

For me, both of them are far too volatile to consider as a long term hold, knowing that I could hedge my investment in far greater terms until either of the investments pan out.

Potential Silver linings if you're a Montero supporter.

He's now a FULL time player in Seattle. He would likely have had around 350-425 AB's in NY even if he was playing very well because the Yanks need the DH spot to rest their aging starters.

In Seattle, the DH was Mike Carp and the C's are Miguel Olivo and John Jaso.

SO he has a better chance to see a FULL season, 550 + at bats.

Hopefully being around fellow Venezulan Star King Felix will be a good thing for him.

Also, AL West pitching is not as strong as AL East pitching. PLus he gets more NL West teams rather than AL East teams in interleague.

........that's all i have so far. Anyone else got something? :)

Campos is the key to the entire deal. Got a DM from my scout connection on twitter, told me Campos has better pure stuff than Pineda and can project out to be a 1.

Did Montero have a big spike last year? Nope. There were a few sales of raw chromes as high as $80-90, but they sold in the $60-70 range for most of the season.

I don't want to see any more of this nonsense about how everyone who's holding is a fool. Montero a 22 year old with the best offensive potential of anybody with rookie eligibility, including Trout and Harper. Seattle is a good market - maybe you've heard of Ken Griffey Jr. or Alex Rodriguez? Both had huge followings while playing for the Mariners. His best days are still ahead of him.

Bring on the flames.

I'm glad you disputed this theory that there was a huge window of opportunity where folks could / should have cashed in on Montero last year.

It simply didn't happen. They moved maybe 10% in September but that was it. The chance for Montero to really pop was if he pulled a Jason Heyward / Jay Bruce kind of April. Doing that in NY would have been insane, but now maybe he does it in Seattle. We shall see.

You do realize that Snider at one time was a top 10 prospect in all of baseball.

I bought one Pineda Topps Finest auto right before the explosion last night. I feel he has some more movement in his cards if he comes out to a nice 8-1 2.65 start. Montero I think goes down 40 percent outside of NY due to a much much harder hitting environment and the fact his games won't be until 10:30 PM at night.

In what universe is the AL East pitching better than the AL West pitching?????????

I swear, some of you guys just completely talk out of your ass. All 4 AL West teams were in the top 6 overall in team ERA. AL East came in at 9th, 11th and 14th.
