This deal is completely fine with me if come winter meetings the name Roy Halladay and Rays come together...

lol, be serious.

Like I said before, the only way that I am okay with this trade is if Crawford gets a nice big extension.

Crawford should be a Ray for life... he was born a ray and should end a ray, so yes they should lock him up for good. upton on the other hand I would rather bring in someone else because I am sure he will ask for WAY too much

buster olney acted like that isn't going to happen due to the money owed to carlos pena and pat burrell.

Kazmir to Angels is now a Done Deal. Good Luck Kaz!!!

One of my favorite players playing. Met him several times at the Trop, signed a bunch of stuff. I wish him the best of luck. Gonna be hard seeing him with another team. But hey, it's not bad going to first place team that WILL be in the playoffs. Good Luck Kaz, and thanks for being a great guy when i met you in person in 07' and 08'.

They better give Crawford a contract extension through 2050 now.

He'll be the Mets LF next year.

LOL.

Even my mom called me and asked why the hell the Rays were trading Kazmir. This deal has the potential to be very bad unless they get Reckling or someone like that as a ptbnl.

On the other hand, which is more likely, if Kazmir never gets healthy again it'll be a great salary dump by the Rays. We'll see how it goes.

the angels top prospect will not be the ptbnl...chances are it will be a low A scrub or fringe prospect at best. i understand the need for pitching help but this trade disgusts me. kazmir's velocity has dropped in recent years and that is not a good sign for a player as young as he is. and to echo matt's word's...anyone need a s-load of sweeney cards ::facepalm::

Any of you angels fans want some nice Kazmir cards?? :D

I'm not so against them trading him/the salary dump. It's just that they didn't get any quality prospects back. Neither of these guys will likely crack the Rays top 10 prospects.

Exactly! I have no problem with them trading Kazmir. It's what they got for him and the timing of it.[/quote:3tq4zeta]

Ah, I should have mentioned the timing as well. Terrible timing. Surely they could have gotten an equal deal after the season.[/quote:3tq4zeta]
This deal is completely fine with me if come winter meetings the name Roy Halladay and Rays come together... granted they could have probably traded him at the winter meetings too, but i guess it isn't such a bad thing to have Davis up to start, but in the middle of a playoffs race it just baffles me. good luck to us winning the wild card with Shields and Garza who both suck this year and 3 rookie pitchers... 1 (Neimann) who could be in the running for ROY and is having a decent year, 2 (Price) Sucks right now, enough said, and 3 (Davis) a guy who will be making his debut and pitching in BIG, WIN NEEDED games. Right now Neimann is our ace and he may be the ace if kaz were still here but he is not a guy you can rely on down the stretch. We needed kazmir to mentor guys like Neimann and Price down the stretch during a playoff race. Now that guy is gone[/quote:3tq4zeta]

Shields and Garza suck this year? Okay? Price sucks right now? He's been better over his last 5 starts than Kazmir. What's Kaz going to mentor them on, he can't get himself straight.

Buster Olney is a total hack. Whenever he comes on ESPN, I usually mute it. I don't believe anything he says. Burrell signed a 2 year contrac that expires after next season so that has absolutely nothing to do with signing Crawford, who is a free agent after next season.

So, do you think we see Davis or Sonny on Tuesday?

Think and hope it's Davis. I don't ever want to see Sonny and his BP fastballs starting for the Rays again.

the fact is they freed up money with trading Kazmir. They have a good farm system. Im assuming Wade Davis will be brought up once the roster is expanded. Maybe the Rays have just givin up on this year or they just have givin up on Kazmir. I dont know. here are some nice stats for Kazmir.

With an eye toward the playoffs, the Angels had to know that Kazmir is 4-0 with a 2.92 ERA against the Red Sox and Yankees this season. He's 2-0 against each but 4-7 with a 6.78 ERA against the rest of the league.

can anyone explain to me why you trade a proven arm in the pennant race for a 30 year old pitcher (unless cbs got it wrong) and a 3rd baseman when you have longoria? This makes absolutely no sense to me.

The pitcher was born in 87.

I think the bottom line is that the Rays saw a chance to get out of Kazmir's contract and still get good prospects and took it. They just don't have that much financial flexibility and felt they could spend this money better else where. Rays fans better get used to it because if they can't go too much more than 60-70 million a year then they can't sign all of their good players and others will be next to go like Upton.

Rays Front Office Management for 09: D

The list:

Trading Kazmir when his value is at a all time low: D
Not getting anything worthwhile in the Kazmir trade: F
The Edwin Kackson trade: D
Letting Trever Miller go: F
Signing Pat Burrell to early during the FA season: D
2009 MLB Draft: C+
Jason Hammel Trade: A ( Only because they keep Jeff)
Pick up of Greg Zaun: C

Twins way of doing things works because they are smart. You dont take players you cant sign in the draft when you are a team that is going to have to cycle players in order to be competitive thu the system. Washinton told the Rays he was wanting 3.2 million to sign the day after his workout according to other sources then his dad. Rays should have wait until the offseason and then take the best prospect deal with Kazmir.
